Hello The New UI Looks Terrible

Recommended Posts

I have to second NewUILooksTerrible's comment on the new UI.  The ads and push to upgrade are now SO intrusive, and have to agree that it looks like so many of those AV scam program interfaces out there.  Sometimes Marketing departments cannot 'just leave a good thing alone' and feel compelled to change the looks of things.  Malwayrebytes Marketing Dept. obviously succumbed to that pressure, but someone like the CEO should had known better and over-ruled the change. At least, not allowed this UI.  And the shallow attempt to lay it out so the user inadvertently clicks on the Upgrade to Premium version was a bit insulting.  Jeesh!

I'm using the free version without real time scanning, and I heard some folks complaining that this latest version reeks havoc with Google Chrome, causing many hangs and crashes.  So, until I hear that has been cleaned up and the interface changed to something that doesn't look like the scam AV softwares out there, think I'll stick to the free version and carefully click around the ads and upgrade purchase links for the time being.

At a minimum, with the paid version you should have the option to change back to a decent UI and get rid of the ads.

I signed up just now to say this. I am a bit frustrated of having to update every single time I want to do a scan on my computer. Now about the scan. in my case, the older version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would complete it's scan in approximately 1 minute and 40 seconds. The new version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will take anywhere from 3-5 minutes to complete (this may seem like a somewhat trivial complaint, but whatever). Anyway, the really frustrating part is having to update any time you wish to do a scan. The new interface also feels really bloated. I'm sick of the ads as well.

I really hope I don't sound like I'm bitching because I am truly grateful for everything you guys have done. This is the best Malware protection I've ever seen, it has saved my computer numerous times.

But I just miss the old interface.  :(

Maybe if someone can tell me the pros of the new version compared to the old one then I wouldn't be whining.

Hello systemshock and :welcome:

If you were using the Free version of the old Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75.0.1300, then the behavior has not changed and you would do well to update before scans - even now with version 2.0.2.1012.

If however you held a MBAM Pro license and you have updated to MBAM Premium, then I urge you to start a NEW, SEPARATE topic using this >>cjfj.png<< button, and you will be assisted with your computer's database update issue.

Thank you.

I agree with you. I find this frustrating as well Despite what 1PW said it has changed. Every time a scan is launched it checks for updates first, even if an update has just been completed.

Hi:

systemshock

I agree with you. I find this frustrating as well Despite what 1PW said it has changed. Every time a scan is launched it checks for updates first, even if an update has just been completed.

IIRC that feature was added as a safety feature to version 2 because many, many home users (especially of the Free, manual, on-demand version) do not remember to do a manual check for updates (for definitions or program updates) before their manual scan.  This resulted in both false-negatives (because users didn't have a current definitions database) and an occasional false-positive (for which the user would not have gotten the fix). A lot of support tickets were generated by scan results based on outdated definitions.

Premium users ought not to be terribly bothered by this, as their update checks and scans can be scheduled to run automatically and silently?

<just saying>

And that includes schedule updates. this should not be included in pro version or should be an option!!

Making it an option seems reasonable. :)

As it's a safety feature, only the dev team would be able to tell us whether that would be high on their list for a new release.

(Having said that, with real-time protection of the Premium version, how many manual scans does one need? A few seconds to wait for an update check doesn't seem like that big a deal.  <just saying>) :)

My own priority preference would be restoration of the user's ability to disable automatic PROGRAM updates (a feature that was present in version 1).

Ah if only the developers would listen to all the comments and suggestions being made, especially to those of us the took part in the beta testing. Perhaps then there would be a lot less complaints.

They don't want to hear it!  We the customers mean NOTHING to them!

See thread been locked!   When you start one with how awful that the UI looks that I want to gouge out my eyes when I see it!  I really have to go find some other software as 1.75 is dated and they won't put out a new engine with it's business like interface!

If what you said were true, these forums would not exist...plain and simple.  We learn a lot from the customers and we do our best to respond.  If they were to decide to change the UI today, it could not happen until they know that everything works properly.  As you can tell from the forum posts over the past few months, more pressing issues are being dealt with.  Functionality must take precedence over cosmetics.

I also agree with those saying that the new UI is bad.  When running this on customers' systems to clean up the junk (before recommending it to them), I normally boot into Safe Mode with networking, so the display drivers aren't loaded.  The new UI takes up way too much room, you can't easily see what's been identified, and the screen itself is not able to be moved around so that you can get to the bottom buttons.  It's difficult to export the log file (I've not yet been able to do this is Safe Mode).

It looks like some kid designed this.  I almost expect to see a 'Hello Kitty' icon somewhere....

I also agree that it looks like the questionable malware that's out there - not a clean and professional look at all.  I've been using this for years, but I'm not so sure anymore.

C'mon, Malwarebytes - fix this UI - and soon!

  • Root Admin

Using our program in Safe Mode is a last ditch effort. The program is designed to run in Normal Mode. As for the UI thank you for your input - unlikely to change anytime soon as one simply cannot please everyone. We had many complaints about the older GUI as well.

Thank you again
