The Microsoft Bing virus

Recommended Posts

Any way to (voluntarily) add "search engines" and other invasive malware to the quarantine lists.  Bing is so awful to try to get rid of.  My wife and I have had all sorts of technical assistance that has granted temporary breaks from Microsoft's Bing virus, but it keeps coming back.  On technical sites, several good technicians have just recommended finding a new browser.  If you guys could do anything, there are a lot of people who would pay to be free of Bing.

If it keeps coming back, make sure that you hide it before doing Windows Updates.  If it is not found on your computer when you do updates, Microsoft will add it back in UNLESS you have hidden it.  You can right-click any update and hide it, but that also means that you must intervene in the update process rather than allowing it to update on its own.

and even at that ... "hiding" is not always a guaranty of permanent riddance .

i have personally witnessed attempts at re-installation (or at least it being proffered) during the running of windows update .

yep , i use another browser ... firefox .

and even that has been screwed up with the new *aurora* release , but there are ways to restore it to it's former self .

Yes, AFAIK M$ will reoffer it periodically via Windows Updates, and one needs to hide it again.

There is no such thing as "Microsoft's Bing virus".

That's a faux description of something by somebody who really does not know what is really going on.

If you are talking about the Bing Toolbar, it definitely isn't a virus and it can be removed by using the Control Panel Applet "Program and Features" or "Add/Remove Programs".  If is is just the default search engine that is just a setting that can be changed.

Again, Microsoft's Bing is not a virus

It isn't even malicious in any way, shape or form.  At best it can be described as something someone doesn't like.

No matter what, it only reinforces the faux perception and needs "correction" for all readers of the post as too many would read it and take it literally.  That is why, falsely, everybody calls everything malicious under the sun a "virus" when the vast majority is most certainly not a "virus".

Look At Your Browser's Shortcut Destination Path,
Right Click Your Browser's Shortcut, Go To Properties,
In I.E. Destination Should Look Like This "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
If There Is a URL Next To The Path Delete It (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe http://www.bing.com") -> ("C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe")
Hope It Helps
