Real-Time Protection Problem

Recommended Posts

As recommended by 1PW at Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help, please open a topic at
Malware Removal Help. Same TopicTitle was used for both Sub-forum.

Warning advice of "Your system is not protected" sometimes shown on  Anti-Malware Page. When I clicked into Detection and Protection Option under Settings, I noticed that Malicious Website Protection is Disabled. I then clicked on the Enable button but it soon returns to Disabled.
I then repeated the process for several times and the result was still the same. But sometimes it is normal showing Your system is fully protected.

No " END OF FILE " shown on CheckResults.txt log, Same result is  found even when mbam-check exe is run again after 2-4 hours and has to delete the screen manually.

Required log texts are enclosed for your reference and further advice. Many thanks!

STEP 0
RKill is a program that was developed at BleepingComputer.com that attempts to terminate known malware processes
so that your normal security software can then run and clean your computer of infections.
When RKill runs it will kill malware processes and then removes incorrect executable associations and fixes policies
that stop us from using certain tools. When finished it will display a log file that shows the processes that were
terminated while the program was running.

As RKill only terminates a program's running process, and does not delete any files, after running it you should not reboot
your computer as any malware processes that are configured to start automatically will just be started again.
Instead, after running RKill you should immediately scan your computer using the requested scans I've included.

Please download Rkill by Grinler from one of the links below and save it to your desktop.

Link 2

  • On Windows XP double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • On Windows Vista/Windows 7 or 8, right-click on the Rkill desktop icon and select Run As Administrator
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.

STEP 01
Backup the Registry:
Modifying the Registry can create unforeseen problems, so it always wise to create a backup before doing so.
  • Please download ERUNT from one of the following links: Link1 | Link2 | Link3
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.
  • Double click on erunt-setup.exe to Install ERUNT by following the prompts.
  • NOTE: Do not choose to allow ERUNT to add an Entry to the Startup folder. Click NO.
  • Start ERUNT either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup process.
  • Choose a location for the backup.
    • Note: the default location is C:\Windows\ERDNT which is acceptable.

[*]Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are selected. [*]Click on OK [*]Then click on YES to create the folder. [*]Note: if it is necessary to restore the registry, open the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

STEP 02

Once completed please click on the History > Application Logs and find your scan log and open it and then click on the "copy to clipboard" button and post back the results on your next reply.

STEP 03
Please download RogueKiller and save it to your desktop.

You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • RogueKiller 32-bit | RogueKiller 64-bit
  • Quit all running programs.
  • For Windows XP, double-click to start.

Please uninstall cpuz132 - no program should be installed and run from the temp directory. If you want to use the program then reinstall it but choose it's own folder not the temp folder.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Well you have an invalid TCPIP.SYS file that we need to replace. I've written a cleanup script for you to do that.

Please download the attached file CFScript.txt and save it to the same location as Combofix and then quit your browser.
Then drag-and-drop the file CFScript.txt onto Combofix to run it again. When done it will produce a new log. Please post back that new log on your next reply.

Log file is now enclosed for your checking and further advice.

Is it advisable to remove Google Toolbar Notifier and No Chrome Offer Until from Registry since doesn't know it still exists as I have already unchecked those items? Please advise their removal if feasible and how to prevent them to be installed again?

Many thanks!

You need to stop syncing Chrome and then clean up any issues. The when done and clean you can re-enable syncing if you like.

A. Go into the dashboard. Log in. https://www.google.com/settings/dashboard?hl=en

B. Scroll down to “Chrome Sync” and click “Manage Chrome Sync” on the right.

C. Go to bottom of resulting summary page and click “Stop and Clear.” It will ask you if you really want to, and if you do, in fact, really want to, click “Ok.”

After you have disabled it then do the following.

Please visit each of the following sites and lets reset all of your browsers back to defaults to prevent unexpected issues.
If you are not using one of the browsers but it is installed then you may want to consider uninstalling it as older versions of some software can pose an increase in the potential for an infection to get in.

Internet Explorer
How to reset Internet Explorer settings

Firefox
Click on Help / Troubleshooting Information then click on the Reset Firefox button.

Chrome
Chrome - Reset browser settings

Opera
How to Perform a (really) clean Reinstall of Opera

Then restart your computer and let me know if you're still having any redirects or other signs of an infection.

Well you or someone else could very easily have installed Chrome as many 3rd party applications attempt to install it as they get a few pennies from Google to get you to install it.

If  you don't use Chrome and did not knowingly install it then go into your Control Panel, Add/Remove and simply uninstall it and when it asks if you want to keep your personal settings say No, let it remove them.

There is no such file"Chrome" found on Add/Remove program on Control Panel but Google Toolbar Notifier and No Chrome Offer Until exist under Google at HKEY_CURRENU_USER of System Registry. Do I commence to stop syncing Chrome and clean out any issues and then continue resetting those browsers of IE / Firefox now? Is it then neceesary to remove GoogleToolbar Notifier and No Chrome Offer Until under Google at System Registry manually? Many thanks for the advice!

That's up to you but personally I don't want, like, or need any toolbars -- including those from Google.

Let me have you restart your computer and then run a new FRST scan and make sure  you place a check mark in the ADDITIONS.TXT check box and post back both new logs.

Let me know what current issues you're seeing or having.

Requested text files are submitted for your checking and advice.

Each time after newly reboot of system, MBAM shows normal. Then after some time, it becomes "your system is not fully protected". Under Settings on Detection & Protection Topic, Malicious Website Protection is Disabled. After I clicked on Eabled button, it resumes back to Disabled again in seconds.

Let me have you do a clean removal and reinstall of the program again. May not fix the issue but will ensure that all the files and settings are correct.

  • Typically this is about a 100MB download so depending on your connection speed it can take a short while to download and become ready.
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan once the update has finished downloading
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop, then copy and paste it in your next reply.

Note: There will also be a file on your desktop named MBR.dat do not delete this for now.  It is an actual backup of the MBR (master boot record).

JavaRa.exe is not allowed to run as I haven't any password for Administrator and it shows following error message of "The application encountered an unexpected error and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." . I have tried 4-5 times and the result is still the same. Do I have to set the password for Administrator and start again? Thanks!
