Has to burn down system twice

Recommended Posts

in the past 9 months mbam has let 2 virus' into my systehim.   Having spent several days with support guys they finally gave up and suggested I do a fresh win7 install and rebuild.

Anyone else have this many issues that could not be corrected.   I;m a rookie at this - anyone have any suggustions for an alternative to mbam that may work better.   tks in advance.

Well, you may choose to dismiss this because I'm on staff, but 93% of people who have AV installed also have Malwarebytes installed. There's a pretty good reason for that.  No product is perfect, but we fix a lot of issues that others don't even detect.

More specifically to add to what gonzo wrote is that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) fixes modifications that Today's malware makes to the Operating System.  Traditional Anti Virus applications may delete or block malware and in the case of true viruses that are file infectors ( not the faux perception that everyone thinks is a virus when it is not ).  Traditional Anti Virus application can remove the malicious code that was prepended, appended or cavity injected into legitimate files.  However they have a poor track record in correcting the many modifications that Today's non-viral malware makes to the Operating System.  Think of it as Today's malware creates an environment that the malware can best thrive in.  It modifies its environment to do that.  MBAM can revert the Operating System back to a normal condition reversing those modifications that the malware created to thrive in.

This is one of the many reasons MBAM is an adjunct to a Traditional Anti Virus application and does not replace it.  It is a complementary application.  Together MBAM and a Traditional Anti Virus application have a greater efficacy than either one alone.

Another layer of protection. A system Image backup. If you would have a system image you could have recovered to the time of the last backup in minutes instead of hours of loading windows and reinstalling programs.and possible data loss as well. My preferred free program is Macrium Reflect free. That and an external usb hard drive and you would be set.

There are plenty of tutorials around the web to teach you the basics.

No one security product, not even MBAM, can possibly protect against 100% of the many, many malware variants in the wild.

The MBAM team works very hard to stay abreast, issuing database updates 10 or more times per day.

A robust antivirus (either free or paid; with a software or hardware firewall) alongside MBAM Premium is a strong security foundation.

But one also needs to keep the Windows OS, browsers, plug-ins, 3rd-party applications and all other programs fully patched and updated.

Many (most?) computer infections initiate from the part of the computer between the chair and the keyboard. ;)

Safe computing practices are critical.
