Suppress notifications but keep protection active

Recommended Posts

Hi Team,

Is there any way to suppress notifications (hopefully for items originating from a single process (say, utorrent.exe) so that even though the protection module continues to run and block perceived threats, I don't have to constantly see a pop-up notice and close it down?  If so, how can this be accomplished?  If not, are there any plans to add such functionality?

Thanks!

Hi:

Unfortunately, notifications in version 2 are currently "all or none" (enabled or disabled).
The developers have promised to restore more granular user control of notifications in a future version.

Until then, for P2P and other programs likely to generate IP blocks and notifications, the safest thing to do is to add the PROCESS to the WEB EXCLUSIONS (the ability to do this is a new feature in MBAM 2).

Add Process
Clicking the Add Process button allows you to exclude a process which would otherwise be blocked from accessing an internet address. Please note that this option is only functional on Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. This is typically of value to users who need to access filesharing and/or peer-to-peer applications. On occasion, IP addresses used by these applications may be blacklisted, so that Malwarebytes Website Protection blocks access to the website as a whole. Excluding the IP address makes the user more vulnerable, as would exclusion of the domain (if the website uses a domain name). Excluding the process — providing that the process is not an internet browser — would allow the P2P application to function without increasing risk. http://www.malwarebytes.org/support/guides/

THank you for the lightning-fast response, but I'm still confused.  If I exclude the process (utorrent), is the protection service still running against that process (and therefore only pop-ups cease) or is the protection on that process ended as well?  I'm dumb, and it's early in the morning.  Thanks!

I agree that the wording in the User Guide is not particularly clear. ;)

I am just another home user who does not use any P2P software, so that blurb is the best I can do for you. :)

To add the process to the web exclusions: Main GUI > Settings > Web Exclusions > Add Process.

We'll need to wait for someone with hands-on P2P experience to weigh in with more details.

Cheers,
