Malwarebytes has stopped working

I have been using the free version of malwarebytes for years and never had a problem with an update--yesterday the update installed the new version and i keep getting the message "malwarebytes has stopped working"  i am sure i am not the only person who has seen this but i have tried every fix i can find on the forums and online and nothing works.  How can i get back to the earlier version before this new 2.00.2.1012 or any other advice on how to get this to work again?

PS did the disk scan, the uninstall and reinstall, every cleanup possible, nothing

I had run the scan about a week or so ago without any update and nothing malicious showed up so i am sure this is some sort of compatibility problem-
