https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/104461-norton-antivirus-2012-issue/

It is an old thread so starting new one

i think it is NAV 2013 i have

This is happening with MBAM 2 0n vista 32 bit. Not happening on 64 bit win 7 running MBAM 1.75.

MBAM 2 has no option to refuse program updates? In MBAM 1.75 the database of signature can be updated without updating the program

Hello and :welcome: :

Yes, that is a very old thread based on old, outdated versions of both MBAM and Norton.

Can you please tell us in a bit more detail: what is the problem you are experiencing now?

Until then, some users do find it helpful to set mutual exclusions between their AV and MBAM.
The MBAM files to exclude in NIS are listed below.
The NIS folder to exclude in MBAM is illustrated by the screen shot below (of course, it shows *my* AV (Kaspersky), not NIS, but the principle is the same).

As for automatic/silent PROGRAM updates in MBAM 2, yes, you are correct.
Currently, there is no way to disable automatic program updates like there was in version 1.x.
Program upates -- when available for your computer -- will come down automatically during a check for database updates.
The dev team has promised us that they do plan to restore in a future release the ability for the user to disable/control program updates.

Thanks,
---------------------

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products (but it is not very up-to-date, unfortunately).

Hi:

it only says current version.

I'm sorry -- I don't understand. :(

And I don't run Norton, so I'm not exactly sure what the user interface looks like.

If you click on the Norton program's desktop shortcut icon, it should open the program interface.
I expect -- as is the case with most other security programs -- that it states somewhere the version of the program that is installed (see attached screen cap that shows the version for *my* security program, KIS).

Or, you can hover your mouse over the NIS icon in the system tray to see what version it is (see attached screen cap that shows the version for *my* security program, KIS).

In order for us to be able to better assist you, can you please tell us: what is the problem you are experiencing?

Then, it might help for us to obtain some basic information about the system.
To do so, please read the following and post back the 3 requested logs attached to your next reply here in this thread - Diagnostic Logs

Thanks,

Hi:

Thanks for the update.

Each computer is unique.

Problems that sound "the same" often are not, especially when it comes to older, outdated versions of the software and very old forum threads.

That's why I am trying to obtain more details about the exact problem you have on your computer. :)

It might help for us to obtain some basic information about the system.
To do so, please read the following and post back the 3 requested logs attached to your next reply here in this thread - Diagnostic Logs

Then, please wait for a staff member or another forum helper more familiar with Norton products to assist you.

Thanks for your patience,
