MBAM Premiun/Pro -- No Real-Time Protection, No Update

Recommended Posts

Just joined this Forum. Am migrating to Win 8.1 from XP, and had purchased the lifetime MBAM Premium/Pro version some months ago while still on XP. Installed Premium/Pro on 8.1 around 2-weeks ago.

On my new 8.1 computer I have Windows Defender and Firewall active -- along with MBAM. A Google of this dual protection mode indicated that this was OK. And indeed, until today everything seemed fine.

But now, MBAM indicates it has no "Real Time Protetion," and says it needs to be "Fixed" -- but when I click this "Fix" tab, nothing happens. Also, it won't let me Update the AV, etc, database -- says, "Unable to access update server."

Any thoughts on why this is happening? I've done Googles, with no results. And, I can't find a way to search the Forum posts here on the subject matter at hand

Appreciate any help.

Tks for the prompt reply, 1PW. I went ahead and did an uninstal l and reinstall on my own, several hourrs ago. (Was gong to wait a while before I posted ths to the Forum, to assure that thngs were OK.)

But, that reinstall seems to have fixed the problems. Then, did a full system scan. Found (2) PUP's -- "Open Candy." (Sounds like Adware? Think I had 'em before, on NIS.)

Still...it's disturbing that MBAM can get wiped-out like that. (But then again, 8.1 has done some of the damnedest, dumbest things I've ever seen to my computer in the last few weeks. I *really* don't care for it much at all. Here's hoping 9 comes out soon.)

We are pleased that your issue has been resolved.

You may wish to check that "Enable self protection module" has been checked using the Dashboard's > Settings > Advanced Settings window.

Please let us know if we may help you further.

Tks again, 1PW. I did enable that, now, as you suggested.

And, I noticed on my prior problem area that when I checked the status of "Detection and Protection" in the Settings then, that both "Malware Protection" and "Malicious Web Site Protection" had been disabled. That's scary -- to know someone/something has the ability to do such things to a robust anti-malware system like MBAM.

Maybe that "Self Protection Module" enabling should be by default?

Appreciate your efforts here.

Robby

Clean re-installs will of course set all to their default states giving the user ample opportunity to customize their installation before locking down and even password protecting.

Please let us know if we can help further.
