Updating MB Pro

Recommended Posts

i have a paid for licence on my main PC, when MB updated the other month, it updated to the new version (which, IMO, the UI is not the best)

but, i also bought a copy for the wifes laptop, i updated it today but it's not updated the program, it's still on the PRO version, not the updated premium

i know i could download the new installer & update it, but i was just wondering if there was a wee bug in the updating of it from the program?

Hello Screamer,

I would like for you to start the program.  Please look at the Dashboard screen.  Does it have the green-color bar with the check-mark "Your system is fully protected" ?

Does the top bar on the window show version **2.0.2.1012** ?    { you can also check Settings >> About button }

now, click on the **My Account** icon at the very top bar.   Does that show license state as "Licensed" ?  ( assuming you have a paid License)
let me know about all those

Click the **Settings** icon >> then **Detection and Protection**
are the 2 protections on for Malware protection + Malicious website protection ?    ( assuming you have a paid License)

Please let me know if you have any questions or need further assistance.

The notifications for upgrades are metered by design so that the servers are not overwhelmed.  But that said, the Version 2.0.2 has been available for free download for several weeks now.

hi,

the version on the wife's laptop is 1.75, so it's still the old UI

going through all the stuff you've mentioned, it sounds as if it's the new version your asking me to look at, this is still the old version

it was just a query if there was a problem with the updater, but as mentioned, it looks like it's going out in batches from the servers and this has still to update

Hi:

Until Maurice and John return...

hi,

the version on the wife's laptop is 1.75, so it's still the old UI

going through all the stuff you've mentioned, it sounds as if it's the new version your asking me to look at, this is still the old version

Yes, as mentioned, auto-updating to version 2.x is "throttled" (released to a portion or users at a time).

Just a thought: Have you checked on the wife's laptop to be sure that 1.75 is configured to check for PROGRAM updates (which can be controlled/disabled separately from DATABASE updates) -- see screen cap?

update,

just looking at the site for downloaded the premium version, when did it become a yearly subscription?

i thought it was once you paid for it that was it??

Yes, if you had a valid, consumer, lifetime, 1-PC license for MBAM 1.x PRO, it will have been/will be automatically migrated to a similar license for version 2.x.  There is no need to pay again.  Once a lifetime license, always a lifetime license (for consumers).

Only NEW licenses for version 2.0, sold after its release a few months ago, are subscription-based and renewable*.

What does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 mean for me?

(*NOTE: There have also been some special offers/promotions since the 2.0 release, directly offering 1-PC, lifetime, consumer licenses for 2.x.)

Cheers,

You can pull down your own upgrade when you wish.  The upgrade is free for everyone.

Now, you indicated you had a special setup on your spouse/s computer.

Therefore you need to be logged in with an administrator-level login account   ( not limited user account).

Then close /exit the Anti-Malware program after the fresh restart of Windows   ( meaning, t be sure you have a fresh Windows start).

Then get the upgrade and SAVE the setup files from this link onto the DESKTOP

http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam

Once after it is saved, you are ready to begin the upgrade-install  ( over the top of the existing one)

Run the mbam-setup.  IF your Windows is Vista / Windows 7 / 8, then do a Right-click on mbam-setup-2.0.2.1012.exe and select Run as Administrator and allow to run.

NOTE:

This all assumes the system is not infected at this point.   And that also self-protection is off in MBAM ( if you had self-protection  on).

Good going, Screamer.

I would suggest these tweaks:

Take a look inside the program. Start the Anti-Malware. Click on the Settings icon at the top bar up at top.
Then click the **Advanced Settings** button at the left.
Be sure all top 3 lines on that window are check-marked ( selected ).

Now a couple of changes for each of the Update task & the Threat scan task in the Scheduler.
Click on **Automated Scheduling** button.

Locate and click once on **Check for Updates** line and press Edit. Then press the Advanced button at bottom left.
Slide the window up so you can see all of it. {press the mouse on the very top bar and slide UP }
A few changes are needed.
Look at the "starting time" of the task and use some good time when you know that your computer will be on & powered & that Windows would be on at that time.
Look at the line in Schedule Options. UN-check "Show notification after successful update".

In the Frequency and Settings. Select Hourly and I suggest using the Recurrence at 4 hours.
In the Recovery Options put a check-mark on "Recover missed tasks" and select 1 hour
When done, press the OK button.

Locate and click once on the Threat Scan line and press Edit.Then press the Advanced button at bottom left.
Slide the window up so you can see all of it. {press the mouse on the very top bar and slide UP }

In the Schedule Options, put a check-mark on the line Terminate program when no threats are found
{when no malwares are detected you want the scheduled task to close}.

In the Frequency and Settings block.
You should have Daily and the recurrence set to 1 day.
now UN-check the line Check for updates before scanning {{that line should be always off otherwise the task may not run at the time set. It maybe run +/- 15 minutes of that period.}

In the Recovery Options put a check-mark on "Recover missed tasks" and select 1 hour
When done, press the OK button.

When completely done, close the window.
