I Have Strange Musical Notes Upon Starting Windows

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For some reason I have been getting strange music tones when I start Windows, It's as if my machine is trying to tell me something is wrong. It is three music notes in a low key. For lack of how else to describe the sound, it as something you would hear in a TV game show when someone gives the wrong answer.

The only change I might be able to attribute it to is a new cable modem, but It seems to be working fine.

Hello CWB,

Looking back on what I wrote, I wouldn't blame folks for thinking I'm a few fries short of a happy meal but truth really is stranger than fiction. :P

I have no idea how I'm going to catch it as a wav. This looks to me like something that's going to take some time to figure out. However, I am going out of town tomorrow so I will be visiting here on my laptop.

Can we put this on the back burner for when I get back home?

That is actually a common sign that some infected computers get. I'm not saying your computer is infected but if you're unable to locate the cause then I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks

Hello,

As I said earlier, I will be out of town and right now I am on my laptop which does not have this problem. As soon as I get back home I will follow Ron's advice (message #4) and take this situation to available assistance for pups. That will happen 06/23/14.

Thanks,

Anne :D

Hello,

I just got back home from a trip and discovered a different problem that might be a related to the original problem with my desktop. I an now have no icons; not even the start button. See attached for the missing icons on my desktop- attachment is from my laptop.

Probably Someone Change Windows' Sounds, Without Letting You Know?
Head Over To Personalization and Click On Sounds A Window Will Appear, If Sound Combination Is NOT Windows Default, Then Set It There.
If It Is Windows Default, Then It May Be Malware Or A Simple Program That Edits Registry Key Values....
I Cannot Think Of Another Possible Solution

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. I went to check out sound window and for some reason the test button is greyed out. Also my start button and open and close window buttons are back. Now I will follow Advanced Setups advice in message #4 to go 'Pup' hunting. :P

Thanks,

Anne

At this point I also want to know why I temporarily lost use of my taskbar buttons (start button for one) and the buttons at the top for minimize, enlarge, and close windows. I want to know what caused it (rendering my machine as useless) and why the problem 'fixed' itself.

Hmmmm......
Have You Ever Edited            explorer.exe           in C:\Windows\system32\explorer.exe?
In Windows XP A Friend Of Mine Wanted to Edit The Start Button and Make It Instead Of Writing Start, He Wanted His Name On It... He Edited It with Resource Hacker and The Problem You Had Appeared, I Told Him To Replace The Edited Explorer.exe with The Original and Problem Fixed...
I'll Let You Know If I Think Of Something

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding the missing and found buttons. At this point I will focus on what happens with my malware sessions. When I am done there, I will come back here to report; hopefully as problem solved.

Hello,

I am back here because I am still getting intermittent music tones of gloom and doom. My machine was given a clean bill of health from the Malware section. The only new thing I have done is to completely un and reinstall my Host file which went very well and no problems that I am aware of.

Hello Ron,

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I am not in any particular hurry to get anything done. I thought I was finished with the malware issues but I stand corrected.

Thanks,

Anee :D
