MBAM Protection Module Crashes

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I run MBAM and Windows Defender together. I am running Windows 8.1. I have a problem that is temporarily solved by an uninstall and re-install of MBAM. The protection module stops starting on bootup, and when i try to run the mbam.exe, it never runs. I have to fully uninstall the program, reinstall, and reactivate. MBAM runs fine for about a week, then just stops booting up or working at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello and :welcome: ,

It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE. Please post back if you need help with that.

I understand that you have already tried to reinstall at least once, but it's not clear from your post if the recommended method was used for that.  So, if the suggestion about setting exclusions doesn't resolve your issue, please start here:

Thanks,

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, I did follow your uninstall steps last time I encountered this problem. I added the necessary exceptions, rebooted, and still have the issue. I also forgot to mention that I am running HP Protect Tools simply for the convenience of having bio metric login capabilities. I doubt that would conflict because it has nothing to do with malware or AV, just logins and passwords.

Well since MBAM won't even run (unless I reinstall it), I can't get diagnostic logs of it. Would you like me to reinstall and get some logs? The problem is impossible to replicate, as once the protection module stops booting, the program itself won't even run.

If MBAM is not installed on your computer, then it would probably help to reinstall it and run the mbam-check -- that's the only way to determine what might be wrong with the program's performance on your system.

Short of that, then at least run the FRST tool and post back with both of those logs attached to your next reply, please.

Thanks,

Yes the logs do indicate that its crashing as well are many other applications or services so something is going on there.

As we do not do malware detection and removal in this section of the forum I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thank you
