Database out of date

Recommended Posts

I recently I have been getting the "Your databases are out of date" message. When I click to update the databases, nothing happens. I have been reading the forums to find what the program could be. I am running the premium version of the software in Window 7. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software according to the directions provided, but the problem persists. Attached are the log files mentioned in other forum posts. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, @dwoodard72:

EDIT: It looks as if you have a separate post for this here.

It appears that it may have been inadvertently overlooked. :(

The staff will likely prefer to respond to your inquiry in that other topic.

While we wait for staff to review your logs, your logs all have a time stamp of 6/6/2014.

As today is 6/8/2014 (at least in the U.S.), are you sure that your system date and time are correct?

Or were these logs generated 2 days ago?

(Wrong system date and time can cause an update failure.)

Also: if you click the "Scan" tab at the top of the dashboard, are there items in the Scan window that await your action?

If so, those need to be dealt with first, before the program can update.

Thanks for your patience,

P.S. The mod team will probably split off your post to a new, separate topic. :)

Each computer is unique.

So, too, is the solution, even to a problem that sounds "the same"

It creates less confusion for everyone if we try to stick with "one user per topic". ;)

Hello Dwoodard72 and welcome to Malwarebytes forum.

Lets start first with these steps.
Press and hold Windows-key+E key on keyboard to start Windows Explorer.
From the Windows Explorer menu options, Select Tools, then Folder Options.
Next click the View tab.
Locate and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
Locate and click "Show hidden files and folders and drives. "
Click Apply > OK.

1. Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
6. Press OK
7. Press YES to create the folder.

I want to be sure we also cover this next point before doing more.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.
I suggest putting in trust settings in your antivirus, as follows:
Please "put as Trusted" (i.e., put Trust settings) for the following MBAM exe files within your Antivirus Software whitelist :

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in "Windows Firewall" you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For 32-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows XP:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows 8:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Check your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security application to see if you can add exclusions for specific applications/files to ignore.
You may need to contact their technical support or check their support website for instructions.
You will need to set your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security to ignore/exclude the files I listed above.

{D}
Having done part C, then, now start the Anti-Malware. On the Dashboard screen, press the Update Now link.

If it fails again with the same error message as before, proceed to the next step.
If it does update and without a problem, then please do a Threat scan and let me know the result, and then stop and provide the details in your reply.

{E}
If all the above has not resolved the update issue, then you may follow this step.

First, lets shutdown the realtime Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Go to the desktop Taskbar. See the blue-color MBAM icon in the notification area.
Do a Right-click on it with your mouse, and select EXIT.

I've attached a file for Malwarebytes configuration named netconf.zip
Save the zip file to your system. Then unzip the contents. You will then see a net.conf file.

Please see if replacing the existing net.conf with this one works or not.

It needs to be copied to here

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\Configuration

That location is normally hidden in Windows so you will need to be able to see hidden files and folders.

See here if you need instructions
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/

Before replacing your existing file, please copy it to another location and attach it when you reply.

When you copy the one I have attached, Windows will prompt you that another file with that name already exists - select to replace it.
When you have done the above, you will need to manually start the program to get it going.
Right-click on the desktop icon for MBAM and select Run as Administrator.

Please let me know if this helps to fix the issue.
