Malwarebytes Malicious Website Blocked

Recommended Posts

Hello I have been using MB 1.75 for some time now and got the message of a new version. I upgrade to Version 2.0.2.1012 and after doing this I have been getting spammed with Website Blocked <IP Address> utorrent.exe

I know in version 1.75 you could turn off the message for this but why isn't there one isn't in version 2.0.2.1012? or is there another option?

I tired putting the utorrent.exe into the exclusion list but that did nothing.

Hi:

Unfortunately, control of notifications and popups in version 2.0 is still "all or none" (enabled or disabled).

The devs have promised that more granular user control over these notifications will be forthcoming with a future release.

AFAIK, Adding the P2P process to the web exclusions -- as you have done -- is the only way to manage it at this time.

The staff will correct me and/or update us both if that is not the case.

Thanks,

Good question, @Porthos. ;)
(And thanks for the extra info -- I don't personally use P2P, so it's helpful to get advice from someone more familiar with it.)

The OP did say that he added it, but just in case, here are the instructions from the User Guide:

Add Process
Clicking the Add Process button allows you to exclude a process which would otherwise be blocked from accessing an internet address. Please note that this option is only functional on Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. This is typically of value to users who need to access filesharing and/or peer-to-peer applications. On occasion, IP addresses used by these applications may be blacklisted, so that Malwarebytes Website Protection blocks access to the website as a whole. Excluding the IP address makes the user more vulnerable, as would exclusion of the domain (if the website uses a domain name). Excluding the process — providing that the process is not an internet browser — would allow the P2P application to function without increasing risk.

I believe that what the majority people do with p2p is wrong no matter where you live and your laws. Infections can be in the content or file you download and in the hands of some one who is not an expert with these can be an expensive disaster.

Computer repairs/data loss( since the majority in my experience rarely or never back up there systems.) P.S thanks to those people, They support my family. ;)

Wasted forum helper time fixing computers due to the fact every one is looking for FREE stuff.

Before the flames/ trolls start. Nothing is wrong with using p2p for legal free/non copyrighted files.

This post was not to start a p2p debate at all. I just wanted to add just the fact I have the experience with it because I deal with the fallout on a daily basis.

Sorry for going off-topic per-se.

Thanks for all of the help and info guys. I did not add utorrent.exe via the "Add Process" button, I think this is where things went wrong.

I followed the instructions posted above and I am giving 2.0.2.1012 another go as I did go back to 1.75 because of this reason.

1.75 does not have the options to add the P2P process as a web exclusion, so it would probably be better to configure 2.0 than to revert.

And there are other reasons to stay with 2.0:
The reasons to use 2.0 include: it has built-in rootkit scanning (1.75 does not); it has a new text parsing engine to address special threats targeted by using configuration files (1.75 does not); and it has built-in Self Protection (1.75 does not). It can also detect and remove some threats that 1.75 cannot because it offers native 64-bit support for 64-bit systems (1.75 does not).  (Also, support for 1.75 will end eventually.)

Thanks,
