Malwarebytes crashes computer when closing

Recommended Posts

Looking for some help.

I've been running Malwarebytes for many years.

I recently updated to version 2.0.2.1012.

Since then, about 2/3 of the time when I close Malwarebytes, it hard crashes the computer

causing a full reboot.

This, along with that new "dashboard", is very annoying.

How do I tweak this version to stop the crashes?

Or, how can I uninstall this version, and return to the previous stable version??

I've also noticed since installation a new autoload at startup:

KernelFaultCheck     %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

What is this??

Win XP SP4

TIA

Hello and welcome to Malwarebytes forum.

Something like that is certainly not typical.  What you describe is a Windows abnormal termination. I image you are seeing STOP code messages from Windows.

What are they ?

Have you made a list, by chance?

The "autoload" line you report is something Windows puts in  when there are abnormal termination of Windows.

I'll need more information to locate the source of the issue.
Please only ATTACH the log files I list here.

This tool will collect some information on the installation of Malwarebytes and create a report I need to review:
Download mbam-check.exe and save it to your desktop    from  http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_check
On Vista/Windows 7, 8, Right-click on mbam-check.exe & select Run as Administrator & allow to Run.
On XP,Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it.
It should then open a log file CheckResults.txt
You should attach the CheckResults.txt file located on your desktop so that I can review.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.com
or http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr

Double click dds to run the tool.

DDS will run in a command prompt window and will take 3 to 4 minutes or so.
Follow and answer the prompts as appropriate.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt & Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please attach following logs in your next reply:  DDS.txt  +  Attach.txt

download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso  and Save to the Desktop
http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe

Double click on **VEW.exe** to start the program.
In the Select log to query section, check (tick):
Application
System

In the Select type to list section, check:
Critical (not XP)
Error
Information
Warning

In the Number or date of events section, check:
Number of events... then enter 20 in the entry box beside it.

Press the Run button.
A Notepad report will open when done, please attach this report. It is located at %systemdrive%\VEW.txt, usually C:\VEW.txt.

The logs indicate that you may have some type of infection. You also appear to possibly have 2 antivirus programs running or at least elements that think you do.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thank you

I have read the material at the link above.

I have contacted the referenced source.

I have cleaned up my computer, eliminating a pair of OLD files that were flagged by another

anti-malware program, and removing the other anti-malware program to ensure there were

no conflicts.

Malwarebytes continues to crash my computer each time I close the program.

How do I uninstall the latest update, and revert to the previous installation which worked

reliably without ANY issues???
