updating MWB as user but running as admin did not work to correct NO REAL TIME PROTECTION

I am running this on my home PC, I have two log-in's; USER for all activity and admin to install software.  I received notice of MWB update when logged in as USER, I right clicked on the exe and ran as admin, the login went through but it did not update, no errors it just did not update nor clear "no real time update".  I switched users, logged in as admin, ran updater, it worked, everything updated, real time protection on.  logged out, relogged in as user,  still showing, no real time protection error.  I tried right click run as admin, no help.  I had to uninstalled MWB, reinstall it for it to update and have real time protection.

 

I am running Bitdefender as antivirus.

I'm sorry to hear about your updating troubles.
There have been some similar reports of the behavior you describe -- it appears to be some sort of permissions/UAC glitch.
I'm only a home user and forum volunteer and I don't know if there is a common thread to all of these reports.

One question: did you have MBAM Self-Protection enabled during all of this?

 

It sounds as if you are back up and running now.  If not, then these would be the next steps to try to resolve this and sort it out:
 

• Please uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
• If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back the requested logs - Diagnostic Logs

Thanks for the quick response. No I did not have Self-Protection on and yes I am up and running after a re-install.  I did notice others with similar issues, my query was more why I running MBAM as an admin (under user login) did not work.  I haven't had this issue with other software.

Sorry, I don't know and it doesn't seem to be all that common (MBAM has millions of users).

Having said that, I do know that the QA team is aware.

 

I expect that they will be working to identify and resolve whatever might be causing it.

Please go thru this set of checklists and tips for the issue of the "Installer error" / administrator login issue.

 

 

Just some starter suggestions:

Please be very very sure that Windows User Account Control is on.

For Windows 7

Go to Control Panel>> All Control Panel Items >>User Accounts

Click on Change User account control settings

You cannot be logged in with a Windows-login-user-account that is a Limited user.

You may also run into issues if logged in as a standard user.

As long as you have done a very recent Windows start today, and are sure you -are-logged-in with administrator rights, you can retry the version 2.0.2 upgrade by one of the three methods here.

 

(A)

IF the Anti-Malware program is opened now ( in a window) then Close it.

Go to the Desktop.  Find the shortcut-link to the Anti-Malware exe   ( blue-color icon) and then do a Right-click and select Run as Administrator and Allow to run.

Then do a new Update run and follow all prompts.

Download & SAVE to the DESKTOP the latest 2.0.2.1012 version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam

        

IF your Windows is Vista / Windows 7 / 8, then do a Right-click on mbam-setup-2.0.1012.exe and select Run as Administrator and allow to run.

On XP, double-click mbam-setup-2.0.1012.exe.

For Vista/Windows 7,8

Download & SAVE to the DESKTOP the latest 2.0.2.1012 version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam

Next, See and follow this to Create an "Elevated Command Prompt" Shortcut

Be sure that our setup exe ( the one named mbam-setup-2.0.2.1012.exe ) is saved and in place on the DESKTOP.
