malwarebytes autorun crashes windows

Recommended Posts

I am a PC repair professional. I picked up a customer's PC: a Dell Latitude running XP Home SP3 which was crashing on startup.

During startup the screen freezes. If I start Task Manager before the freeze it keeps updating itself during the freeze. Also the mouse can be moved, but not clicked. No other interaction is possible. The only way out is to power off the machine by pressing the power button for several seconds.

To test for the reason for this freeze I ruled out a hardware issue using Eurosoft PC Check, then in safe mode loaded Autoruns and turned off all non-essential startups, then turned them on one by one and rebooted to see the effect.

It turns out that the freeze occurs when both the malwarebytes system tray and trend micro Internet Security are both set to autorun during startup. If either starts up without the other there is no problem.

Is this a known issue? Is there a solution available other than turning malwarbytes system tray off?

Oh my, I sure wish I had known this.

I've suddenly had this problem for two days. Tonight it happened again and again, so, since it's my only computer, I finally did a complete recovery.

Oh well.

So what do I do now? Change my antivirus to Avira?

Which anti virus application are you using now?

I use avast! free that does not have a full page intrusive advertisment every time they update the defintions which is quite frequent these days

We are computer technicians and have just come across this issue on approximatly 4 computers in the last 3 days.

We found the common denominator was trend micro internet security 2009 and malware bytes 1.36.

To fix the issue we added all the program files in malware bytes folder to the trend micro exceptions list.

We have had no issues after doing this.
