Virus and Malware?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to fix my friend's laptop for him, thankfully I have mine to be typing on right now as his won't connect to the internet anymore. He is running Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1, 64-bit.

I was trying to follow this page

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=9573

and download malwarebytes to complete the first step when I realized his internet doesn't work now. Google Chrome is returning "ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED". I am also continuously getting "bad image" errors whenever I open new applications.

Help greatly appreciated! Thank you

First and second instructions attached. I used my laptop to download the programs then a thumb drive to transfer programs and logs back and forth (due to lack of internet). However, I couldn't find find a RogueKiller report on my desktop.

Good news! The Bad image report has stopped appearing every time I click anything!! Thank you.

At first the internet still wasn't working, but then I restarted the computer just to be sure the bad image reports were gone for good, and now the internet works too!

So now the only remaining problem I see is that when browsing, the computer is VERY slow and cpu is constantly at 100%. Possibly something lingering on the computer?

Thank you!

I don't see much, see if you can uninstall this from your add/remove programs: (it may have already been uninstalled)

Vuze Remote Toolbar v8.8 (HKLM-x32\...\{0A667D95-3D2A-4482-B435-A9EC56DEB408}) (Version: 8.8 - Spigot, Inc.)

---------------------------

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST.exe.
Run FRST.exe and click Fix only once and wait
The tool will create a log (Fixlog.txt) in the folder, please post it to your reply.

----------------------------

Open up Chrome and disable all the extensions, see if that makes a difference.
If it does, add them back one at a time to determine the culprit.

--------------------------

If no improvement:

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner (it may take a while to run)
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
First please Disable any Antivirus you have active, as shown in This Topic

Note: Don't forget to re-enable it after the scan.
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the options Remove found threats is unchecked and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
Click Advanced settings and select the following:

  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology

Click Start
Wait for the scan to finish
If threats were found:
Click on "list of threats found"
Click on "export to text file" and save it as ESET SCAN and save to the desktop
Click on back
Put a checkmark in "Uninstall application on close"
Click on finish
Post back the log.....MrC

Removing 3 extensions in chrome did the trick. As soon as I did that internet jumped from 20% to 100% speed. One of them was some "______ shopper" extension. Sounds like malware? I would think chrome would have to approve all extensions? Anyway one of those extensions was horrible. Thank you! all is well

OK...........

A little clean up to do....

Please Uninstall ComboFix: (if you used it)

Press the Windows logo key + R to bring up the "run box"

Copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

cf2.jpg

Then hit enter. (it may look like CF is re-installing but it's not)

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and clears System Restore cache and create new Restore point

(If that doesn't work.....you can simply rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe and double click it to complete the uninstall or download and run the uninstaller)

---------------------------------

bwebb7v.jpgDownload Delfix from here and save it to your desktop. (you may already have this)

  • Ensure Remove disinfection tools is checked.
  • Click the Run button.
  • Reboot
Any other programs or logs that are still remaining, you can manually delete. (right click.....Delete)

IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST folder, FRST-OlderVersion folder, MBAR folder, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall.

Note:

If you used FRST and can't delete the quarantine folder:

Download the fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST.exe.

Run FRST.exe and click Fix only once and wait

That will delete the quarantine folder created by FRST.

The rest you can manually delete.
