Windows Defender is blocked-- is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I don't normally use Windows Defender, but for some random reason I was curious if I had it turned on. When I went to the window, it was turned off, so I clicked the button to turn it on. Upon doing so, I got this error message: "This program is blocked by your group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator. (Error Code: 0x800704ec)"

The two other anti-virus/malware programs I'm running are: Malwarebytes Premium and Avast!.

Do any of those block Windows Defender, or is it some type of malware I should be looking for?

Thanks,

Array

Hello and post-32477-1261866970.gif

P2P/Piracy Warning:

If you're using Peer 2 Peer software such as uTorrent, BitTorrent or similar you must either fully uninstall them or completely disable them from running while being assisted here.

Failure to remove or disable such software will result in your topic being closed and no further assistance being provided.

If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now and read the policy on Piracy.

It really depends what version of Widows you are running, Malwarebytes will not turn off Windows Defender. Upto and including Windows 7 Avast will not affect Windows Defender, for Windows 8 WD will be turned off if Avast is active.

WD is purely anti-spyware/Malware for Windows upto and including Windows 7, for Windows 8 it has Anti-virus components, hence there would be a clash with Avast so Avast is given priority...

So we need to know what version of Windows you have.....
