Windows Won't Start - How Can I Recover

Recommended Posts

I ran the rootkit and it found some issues.  I quarantined them.  It then restarted my computer.   It comes up and I sign in.  But when Windows tries to run it just shows a black screen and never comes up.  I can move the mouse pointer but that's it.   When I click the power button it says "Shutting Down" as it would with a regular shut down.

Anything I can do?

Hello and welcome:

Yes, rootkits can seriously damage the computer's Operating System. :(

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.

If the computer is too crippled even to run the preliminary scans, please just start a new post in the malware removal section anyway, explaining the situation.

A malware analyst will guide you through the cleanup and repair process - they will have other tools at their disposal.

Thanks,

I think he means Malwarebyts Anti-Rootkit

Yes, I gathered that. :)

However, the advice is the same.

The sort of in-depth repair work needed to recover cannot be performed in this section of the forum.

So, that's why I referred the OP to the Malware Removal section. ;)

Cheers,
