Am I safe to use my computer again? [Skype Malware]

Recommended Posts

Yesterday while I was catching up on my my Skype messages, I got the "lol is there is your new profile image". While I immediately recognized it, I some how managed to click it while trying to remove the contact. As soon as I clicked it, WinRAR opened up with a file in it. Realizing my mistake I did the following:

- Closed WinRAR, and deleted the downloaded file (emptied the bin).

- Opened McAfee, ran a quick scan, came back clean.

- Ran a full system scan, came back clean.

- Went to my roaming file to look for any suspicious files, nothing.

- Restarted in safe mode, reran full system scan, came back clean once again.

- Launched Windows (7) in normal mode and noticed that there was a task running called "unsecapp.exe". I googled it and saw that it is an official windows program but since I've never seen it in my task manager again I decided to end its process.

- Installed MalwareBytes and ran it. Had 15 notices, most likely normal spam.

- Shut down computer to restart and once it opened I saw "unsecapp.exe" again. I closed it yet again.

- Installed Avast for a double check and it came back clean (I think).

That all happened yesterday but I still am wary that it is still there hiding somewhere. What more can I do to insure I'm safe?

Very sorry for the delay. We've simply been overrun with requests for help and have not been able to get to everyone requesting help in a timely manner.

Now that we're finally getting our head a bit above water again I've been going back to review old missed requests. If you do still need help please let me know.

Thank you
