Malwarebytes won't finish scan-can't clean what is found

Recommended Posts

I have an HP P6745Y, AMD Athlon II X4 640, 4GB RAM, 4TB HD, Windows 7 Home 64bit with the latest updates. I run AVG 2014 free and Malwarebytes Pro v2.0.2.1012 which ran its updates today.

Whenever I run a Threat Scan, it moves through the Pre-scan to the Filesystem with no problems. The problem happens during the Heuristic Analysis in that it scans up to 276,603 files and then advances no further no matter how long I wait (6 hours was the longest). It detected 497 objects with them all being PUPs. They consist of Files, Data, Folders, Keys, Modules and Values.

I have run rKill which didn't find anything. I've run a full scan with AVG which found 16 Adware entries and cleaned them. I've uninstalled mbam, downloaded and ran the mbam cleaner, rebooted and reinstalled. I downloaded spybot search and destroy which found 407 items.

Can you please help me?

Hello cremter and :welcome:

Since you indicated a large amount of malware has already been removed, it would be prudent to follow-up with a Malware Removal Expert.

I recommend following the advice from the topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Malware Removal Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

If, as recommended, you do open a topic in Malware Removal Help, please make reference to this thread.

Thank you.

1PW, are you sure you can't offer any help?  I've posted in the other forum and haven't received an answer since 23 May.

The removal was due to another removal tool.  I want Mbam working.

I'd really appreciate any help you can offer.

It does, 1PW, because there is life on  the other side.  They'll find there's a few thing that were found and removed, but that it's not all that bad.  The final item is to run Mbam Threat.  I predict it will get to about 275k files, find 2 to 5 objects and never finish the scan.  It won't give me the summary screen, therefore, I can't clean what it found.

That's just a prediction, tho.  We'll see what happens.  I do appreciate the responses on this side - thank you very much.
