Stupid question, but...

Recommended Posts

I was browsing through google images, and when I clicked on a pic, an exe downloaded itself to my computer.  I was very careful not to execute it and deleted it right away.  I've ran malware bytes, and it says nothing is detected, but can you get get affected by malware or a virus just by something downloading itself?

Hello and welcome:

Short answer: it depends (probably not from the exe if you didn't run it, but there may have been other "drive-by" exploits at the site).

If you're concerned, you might want to have an expert run some scans to make sure you're clean.

We don't do that sort of work in this section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

The help is free and will only cost you a bit of your time.

Thanks,
