Trojan.Vundo.H infection

Recommended Posts

Hey all, my laptop got hit yesterday by a pack of viruses. Most of them either got stopped or I was able to wipe out myself, but Vundo.H just won't go away. MBAM originally found 20 infections and was able to clean all but 4 of them. The MBAM log below says 'no action taken', but I can assure you that I've performed the scan/reboot cycle a couple of times without success. Interestingly, McAfee (which I hate, but the laptop is sort of a company box) keeps detecting an additional Vundo that MBAM has never complained about. For reference, the file is c:\WINDOWS\system32\hbebqxdv.dll. Like the .dll MBAM can see, this one can't be deleted by any means I've tried yet, included FileASSASIN.

Here are my MBAM and HijackThis! logs:

Hi,

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Hi,

The current formatting of your log makes it difficult to read, so in notepad:

On top, click Format >uncheck Word Wrap

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.

Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::

c:\windows\Tasks\At1.job

c:\windows\system32\iwtlyol.dll

c:\windows\system32\drivers\sowoqogx.sys

Folder::

c:\documents and settings\MK\Application Data\glprmsjz

c:\documents and settings\MK\Local Settings\Application Data\glprmsjz

NetSvc::

wtcoqvdd

Driver::

sowoqogx

Registry::

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{06034148-CEA2-4243-AA4F-3919DA684B81}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\dioyxgjd]

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

CFScript.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

By the way, did you create this batch file? c:\documents and settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ropu.bat and set it to start with Windows?

I did not create ropu.bat. Since this is a machine built by work there's a fair amount of imaged data on it. However, it looks like it's just a .bat that calls another .bat once for every new user to, among other things, create a bunch of IE links to work sites. I can paste the full text/attach the files if you want.

Here is my latest ComboFix Log:

Hi,

However, it looks like it's just a .bat that calls another .bat once for every new user to, among other things, create a bunch of IE links to work sites. I can paste the full text/attach the files if you want.
If you don't use it, then delete it. Otherwise leave it. :P

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

All I actually wanted to know is how things are now. We already removed the malware :mellow:

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
