MWB2, Skype, and constant warnings

Recommended Posts

Greetings and thanks for a great product.

I'm a recent convert to MWB2. New laptop, Win8.1. I currently have two programs open during my 'on' times FFox 28 and skype, along with things like Word, Excel, Acrobat and other utility or productivity software.

This morning was a little unusual in that I was getting multiple alerts from WMB to alert me to Skype.

Is this a false positive? Or some other thing causing this? It only gave me skype as an issue, nothing else.

Help or guidance please.

Hi, DeanZF:

In addition to @Durew's advice.

That particular KB topic hasn't yet been updated for MBAM 2.0.

Since you are running Windows 8.1, you can now add Skype to web exclusions:

Add Process

Clicking the Add Process button allows you to exclude a process which would otherwise be blocked from accessing an internet address. Please note that this option is only functional on Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. This is typically of value to users who need to access filesharing and/or peer-to-peer applications. On occasion, IP addresses used by these applications may be blacklisted, so that Malwarebytes Website Protection blocks access to the website as a whole. Excluding the IP address makes the user more vulnerable, as would exclusion of the domain (if the website uses a domain name). Excluding the process — providing that the process is not an internet browser — would allow the P2P application to function without increasing risk.

Please let us know if this resolves your issue,

Until daledoc1 returns...

To add Skype to your exclusions do this:

1. Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

2. Click on the Settings Tab (top)

3. Click on Web Exclusions (left pane)

4. Click on Add Process

5. Browse to the install location for Skype (C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone)

5. Double Click on Skype.exe

That's pretty much it.
