As a new member, I would be grateful for any advice/comments on this problem. I run Win 8.1 on a usually stable system with Bullguard Security and Malwarebytes. For the last week or so I have been getting a BSOD with the message BAD_POOL_CALLER and on thinking about it, the problem seems to have started shortly after I upgraded to V.2 of Mbam. The problem remains with the second version of V.2 and following web searches, Windows Mini Dump files does not throw any light on the matter. For the time being I have reverted to V. 1.75 and am monitoring the situation. Have any other Forum members had similar problems?

Hello and :welcome:

Sorry that you're having issues. There have been issues with some users, if they enable the rootkit scanning option in MBAM 2.0 and 2.0.1. If you want to get help with this issue, you will have to reinstall the latest version of MBAM, and then post the logs below so that the staff can take a look at them and see if they can see what's going on.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.

You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply as well.
Then run the this one too

Please create an mbam-check log:

  • Download mbam-check.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post, instead please attach the log CheckResults.txt file which should now be located on your desktop to your next post
Thanks

Thank you for your quick response. I have now taken out v. 1.75 and re-installed the latest v.2.0.1.1004 but unchecked the 'rootkits' item (I believe that is the default anyway?). I am now monotoring for BSOD's and if I get any, I will go thru' your suggested procedures and report back - thanks again

Thank you for your reply. I had already carried out various checks with and without MBAM present {what is the suspected infection anyway} and do not think I am infected as when v 1.75  is not running (but still installed) my system seems to be stable again; so I have now used your removal tool to uninstall v 1.75 and done a fresh install of your beta v 2.0.2.1007 and will now await developments and keep you informed. Should I get more BSODs, then I will seek your assistance as you suggest. Please keep me posted as to progress at your end. Thank you.

Well its up to you as far as getting help in the other section, I would to be on the safe side.

Are you saying that after running the mbam-clean tool you are no longer getting BSOD's? If that is the case keep us posted, if you continue to get BSOD's then I suggest following the steps in post #7 above.

As for the possible infections part...

I see mysearchdial, you have a patched rpcss.dll file that could be questionable...

Those are just to name a few, without getting into the aspects of malware removal in the general forum...

The version build 1004 is known to have some issues with the Anti-Rootkit driver.  I would recommend you install the 1007 beta build which should correct in general.  However the Bad_Pool error very well could potentially be caused by an infection.  I've removed a few infections lately that was causing this.

I'd start out doing the following and then if still no resolution I'd post in the other forum as requested to have someone look at it to see if they can find an infection.

  1. Please try the following and let us know if this corrects your issue or not.  -  MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  2. If that does not correct the issue then please read the following and post back the requested logs.  -  Diagnostic Logs
  3. NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here:  -  Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
  4. NOTE: You may also want to try installing the new beta which has corrected some previously reported issues:  -  Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0.2 Public Beta

Thank You
