Hi,

I seem to be having an issue with malwarebytes  2.0/2.01.

When I install the "free" version on a windows 7 pro laptop, it always installs the trial and not the free version.

( Dell with quadcore, 16 gigs ram......does have currently Kaspersky Internet security 2014, ccleaner, glary utilities, defraggler)

I have tried download from 7 different sites, always the free not trial version.

Before anyone says it, there is "NEVER" an option to pick free VS trial any point in the install.

Mind you, I always get the option when installing on win 7 home premium version, vista, xp and win 8/8.1.

My client thought you no longer had free version, but it seems his laptop is the only one I can't get it in.

( I even installed a fresh version on win 7 home premium and used the same downloaded program on the win 7 pro and no trial option.)

I would appreciate any and all help to allow the installing of the free version on win 7 pro laptop.

Hi:

Was MBAM 1.xx or 2.00, any version, EVER actually installed on this system?

It sounds as if you have tried more than once to (un)install it on this rig?

And you just want to be able to install 2.0.1 Free?

As it sounds as if multiple reinstalls have been at least attempted, the best bet would probably be to start fresh with a clean download of the installer.

The steps to do that are explained here: MBAM Clean Removal Process

Please be sure to reboot after running the mbam-clean utility, when prompted.

NOTE: If Self-Protection is enabled in MBAM 2.xx on this computer, please disable it before running the mbam-clean utility.

In 1.75, the Free Trial of PRO (now called Premium) was enabled by default during installation.

So if you are offered such a free trial of Premium during the install wizard, be sure to disable it in order to stay with the Free version.

Please post back and let us know if I understood your issue correctly and if the suggested solution resolves the issue,

P.S. There is no harm in enabling the trial of Premium -- after 14 days, the program will automatically revert to the Free version. In the interim, the user might decide to Purchase a license for Premium, to keep the realtime protection and other features. ;)

I had version 2.0 installed and running fine.  It had a problem so it was uninstalled , rebooted and reinstalled.

From that point on I could not get just the free version to install.

Yes, it was downloaded and attempted to install several times.

Each time, it was uninstalled, rebooted and install on the new one.

This is a clients laptop so I don't have access to it now, I will try to get access and follow the uninstall instruction's listed to see if I get any better results.

A minor update, the end user was going to try using the trial till the end to see if it would convert to free version, but after a few times, it stopped working-stopped loading and was removed from the computer.

I will let you know if the client will allow me to try your instruction's, he was very "personality challenged" about this and wanted a different program that does the same thing and is as good, but that is questionable at best.

Hi:

Well, I'm just a home user, but that certainly doesn't sound like the expected behavior.

My hunch is that none of the uninstalls was a proper, clean uninstall using the mbam-clean utility?

There might be leftover registry entries, or perhaps the self-protection feature was not disabled before uninstalling, which prevented clean removal.

Under normal circumstances, running that tool and rebooting will wipe all traces of the program from the computer.

NOTE: If 2.xx is installed on the system, check to be sure that the SELF-PROTECTION feature is disabled before running mbam-clean, as it will otherwise interfere with a clean uninstall.

NOTE: MBAM should be installed under an Admin Windows account, not a LUA.

Also under normal circumstances, a trial of PRO/PREMIUM should automatically revert to the Free version at the end of the 14 days.

Here is a bit more info about that:  I keep getting notified that my trial has expired, how do I revert to the free version?

(NOTE, the KB topic hasn't yet been updated for 2.x, which was only released less than 2 weeks ago, but I presume that it is the same process.)

So, it might help if you can get physical or remote control of the computer to see what's going on?

Keep us posted,

I followed the directions set forth by Daledock1 and it worked perfectly.  I went over with the cleaning program, instruction's and the new program.

After going offline, Kaspersky off,  I ran the cleaning program and rebooted.  With Kaspersky still off, I installed the program.  At the end of the install I had the options for trial and run now, unchecked trial, and the program showed as free.  Success!!!!!!!!

You can be assured that I will continue to use malwarebytes for myself as well as my clients!!!!

:D
