Using Malwarebytes premium and NIS

Started with the free version of MBAM, upgraded to Pro version and have now been updated to the Premium version.  Found a number of postings on the web that said that running MBAM Pro with NIS causes problems and to either stop MBAM's real time protection or to revert to the free version.  I did the first.  All seemed well.  Have now got the Premium where I can't seem to find the option of stopping the MBAM automatic file protection.  Firstly is there a problem with running two different systems and if so how do I handle this.

I know that MBAM and Norton 360 can clash if MBAM is not white listed. When MBAM is added to the whitelist of Norton they should work fine. Since both Norton 360 and NIS are from the same company and product line I assume they will behave the same way.

I'd also like to add that Norton/symantec will never say that Norton is compatible with MBAM's real-time protection to avoid people going "but you said it would work, now fix it." at norton support.

Some instructions about how to set the white list. (Click "show") They are quite outdated, (still for version 1.75) but it should allow you to find most MBAM components.

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Norton Internet Security 2011:
 

• Open Norton Internet Security and click on Settings at the top
• Click on Computer Settings
• Click Configure [+] to the right of Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR
• Click Add
• Make sure that Include subfolders is checked in the small Add Item window
• Click the small folder icon to the right of the blank white space
• In the Browse for Folder window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files
• Click once on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to highlight it and click on OK
• Click OK and verify that in the box under The following items are ignored by both Auto-Protect and SONAR: it says C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Repeat steps 4-9 for the following files and folders:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes Note: On Vista and 7 this will be C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
• Once you have all of those items in your list, click on Apply then click on OK to close that window and then click Apply and OK to close the Settings window
• Close the Norton Internet Security window

• Open Norton Internet Security and click on Settings at the top
• Click on Computer Settings
• Click Configure [+] to the right of Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR
• Click Add
• Make sure that Include subfolders is checked in the small Add Item window
• Click the small folder icon to the right of the blank white space
• In the Browse for Folder window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)
• Click once on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to highlight it and click on OK
• Click OK and verify that in the box under The following items are ignored by both Auto-Protect and SONAR: it says C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Repeat steps 4-9 for the following files and folders:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes Note: On Vista and 7 this will be C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
• Once you have all of those items in your list, click on Apply then click on OK to close that window and then click Apply and OK to close the Settings window
• Close the Norton Internet Security window

 

If it doesn't work and you experience system freezes or other symptoms associated with NIS and MBAM clashing, please post back.

 

 

You can disable the real-time protection in MBAM Premium 2 in the "detection and Protection" part of the settings. But MBAM will give a warning indicator in it's icon and a pop-up. You can just close the pop-up.
