Need help with download and install MBAM 2

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a noob here, so not sure if this is the right place to post, apologies if not? I had the old version of mbam installed and decided to get the pro version, had a pop up telling me about version 2 about a week or two after purchase, now this is the funny bit, having lots of trouble accessing bookmarks on my chrome browser except a few which oddly loaded up cookies I guess, but I kept on getting a DNS server error and running the network diagnostic tool that informed me that either a firewall wasn't allowing chrome onto the net or the router or cables were kaput? Having had a ransomware incident earlier in the week I was getting suspicious even though the older version of Mbam cleared it up! Now it was after the installation of V 2 that my internet woes got worse and was beginning to think version 2 to was a fake! I say this because I ran chameleon and it duly informed me Mbam was NOT installed??? Chameleon then downloaded the older version and installed and ran a test, result no infections, now after a restart I had a windows update a security patch for W7 and now my internet works and version 2 is telling me there are security issues with it? I cancelled the pop up and came looking for advice. so here I am! Any thoughts please.

Hello and :welcome:

Lets assume that your ransomeware infection is in fact gone.  Lets get you going first with a fresh install of Malwarebytes... simply follow the instructions for Method 1 HERE. After you get it installed and updated, go ahead and run a Threat Scan to make sure the system comes back clean.

Let me know how it goes....

BTW the name of the scans have changed...

The new scan names are a bit confusing to those of us used to the naming scheme in MBAM 1.75, but this should help.

Threat scan ==> quick scan
Custom scan ==> partial or Full scan - depending upon what you choose to scan.
Hyper scan ==> Flash scan (only available for registered PRO users).

Hi, thanks for the advice, i did all that and re installed a clean V2.0, I can confirm that version 2 affects my internet connection for some reason, I am using chrome but that doesn't make any difference whether chrome IE or firefox is used, still the same error as listed above. Ran chameleon again and once again it stated Mbam was NOT installed, downloaded and re installed V1.75 and my internet connection is restored. I have Aetheron killer network installed on my MSI GD65 A87 motherboard, cpu i5, 16 Gb of Gskill ram, running on W7 ultimate 64 bit. Having a look at the settings on V1.75 I cannot check the boxes for filesystem protection or malicious website blocking?

Adding to the above, I have now run the Mbam cleaning utility again and removed V2.0, ran chameleon and re installed V1.75 I can now check the two boxes for complete protection and I now have my internet connection working as before, sorry fella's but there is something wrong with V2.0 or an incompatibility with my hardware/software setup or my A.V? Bitdefender. Both times I installed Mbam my A.V was disabled.

If you want help to resolve any conflict you may have with 2.0, you are going to have to re-install 2.0 and then post the scan logs that I requested below so that they may be reviewed to see what the issue may be.

STEP 1

NOTE: If you have Win8/8.1 Skip Step 1 and go to Step 2 as DDS does not work on Win8/8.1

Please run the DDS scanner and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include both of the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
  • You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file and just post it or attach it.
STEP 2

Please run mbam-check and send back the log as an attachment to your next reply.

  • Download mbam-check.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post; instead please attach to your next reply the CheckResults.txt log file which should now be located on your desktop.
STEP 3

Please run the FRST tool and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system - that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your next reply.

When I first installed BDIS on my W7-SP1 computer with MBAM 2.0 I had to manually set a number of firewall exceptions in the Windows firewall as part of the installation process.  I don't know if this is relevant in your situation or not but I thought I would pass my experience on with BDIS, MBAM 2.0 and Windows firewall.
