Slow scans with MalwareBytes 2.0 #2

Recommended Posts

Hello, im opening new topic as asked by daledoc1 in topic: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=145275

Scan takes too log. I try all three type of scan.

I notice when it scan bigger files (any file .mp3, .jpg or any other) it takes too long to scan it. So now when i go to Custom Scan (Full system scan) it takes 5-6 times longer to finish it then it was in previous version 1.75.

In attachments are all analytics files as asked.

dds.txt

attach.txt

CheckResults.txt

FRST.txt

Addition.txt

Thanks for the logs, juju.

Yes, 2.00 is more powerful, so many folks are reporting somewhat longer scan times.

Scanning large files (archives, mp3) and using the anti-rootkit (ARK) may add some time, too.

Please wait for one of the staff or experts to review your logs.

They will advise you as to how best to proceed.

Thanks for your patience,

Is rootkit scanning enabled? If so, then this is the cause of the longer scan times. 1.75 did not have rootkit scanning but 2.0 does.

We are working on improving the performance of rootkit scanning to attempt to resolve some of the issues we've seen where scans sometimes get stuck or hang in certain areas, so hopefully that will help as well once the new release comes containing this fix. In the meantime, unless you suspect you actually have a rootkit on your system, I'd recommend disabling rootkit scanning, particularly for any scan other than a Threat Scan since the Threat Scan knows where to look for rootkits (scanning offline/secondary drives for rootkits is pretty much pointless since active rootkits need to be running and will only install in the active MBR and/or drivers locations for the active Windows installation and the rootkit scanning in the Threat Scan already checks all MBRs for the system).

Yes rootkit scanning was enabled. With rootkit scanning DISABLED it takes as long as 1.75 version to Custom Scan (Full system scan).

I hope i dont have any rootkits on system :)

@twopointoh:

Please try to be patient and stay with your own post here.

I know it can be hard to wait for help.

But the forum is quite busy and many of the helpers are volunteers.

Please try not to post in topics started by other users.

It just creates confusion for everyone, as each computer is unique.

Thanks very much for your patience,
