Malwarebytes v2.00.0.1000 Minor Issues

Recommended Posts

Just installed this over my previous v1.75 Pro version. I have the following observations/issues:

- I have scheduled a 'Check For Updates' at 07:00 each morning.  Sometimes this runs, sometimes not.  If I run it manually then there is a definition update available.

- I have a daily scheduled 'Hyper Scan' set for 19:00, preceeded by a 'Check for Updates.'  This runs but on the dashboard it states against 'Scan Progress' that the next scan will run at  on 28/03/2014 18:52:16 i.e. yesterday and yet the scan yesterday evening has run and there is a log stating as such.

- If I select 'Check for Updates' by right-clicking on the System Tray icon, in my opinion the updates should occur without opening the main program window as previously.  If I want to open teh main program window I can simply select 'Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware' from the same context menu.

Regards

Hi:

Regarding the first item.

Scheduled update checks (just as in 1.75) are randomized +/- 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

The "check for updates before scan" option is new in 2.00.

If you enable it, both the update check and the subsequent scan will be randomized.

So, if you want your scan to occur at exactly the scheduled time, you'll want to disable that feature.

We'll need to wait for staff and/or one of the forum experts on the other 2 items (I think there might be a known cosmetic bug related to your 2nd question).

In the interim, you might want to try a clean reinstall, as this often resolves minor issues.

To do so, you would use Method 1 here: MBAM Clean Removal Process

Well, a scheduled update this morning at 07:00 did not activate.  At 07:20 (to allow for the 15 min randomisation) I ran a manual update and the database version went from v2014.03.30.05 to  v2014.03.31.03.  MBAM v2 is not working correctly with regard to scheduled updates.

Hi:

Sorry it's still not working for you.

Have you tried a clean reinstall, as suggested in my earlier reply?

That often resolves minor issues.

Also, is this a desktop or a laptop?

Is the computer asleep or hibernating at the time the update is scheduled?

Please let us know.

Thanks,

Hi, Skier: :)

I am seeing scheduled database updates simply not running but have just run a manual update to find it updated by 4 or more versions.

I have replied to you in your own topic: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=145253&hl= :)

To avoid confusion for everyone, it would probably be advisable not to cross-post for the same issue in multiple threads started by multiple users.

Although the issue might sound "the same", each computer is unique.

So, in order for both you and the OP here to get the full attention of the staff/experts, I would respectfully suggest staying with your own post, please.

Thanks very much for your patience and understanding. :)

As others in this thread have similarly done, I was simply adding another example of scheduled database updates not working correctly.  Nothing more, nothing less.

To continue with issue outlined in the 2nd bullet in my original e-mail.

Here is a screenshot of the main dashboard (Note the Next Scheduled Scan Time) :

Here's a screenshot of the Automated Schedules:

Given the automated schedules I have established, why does the main Dashboard show a scan time of 16:00 today, which has already passed?

Skier I believe that is one of the bugs already mentioned... It has to do with one of the options being enabled.

If you have a scheduled update and you have the option Checked for Check for updates before scanning, it messes with your scheduled scans... See the screenshot below on where to turn that off.

Have you tried the MBAM-Clean tool as mentioned by Daledoc1 in post #2 above?

If you have tried the clean install and still did not fix your issue, then we will probably need some logs to see if we can tell what may be going on...

STEP 1

NOTE: If you have Win8/8.1 Skip Step 1 and go to Step 2 as DDS does not work on Win8/8.1

Please run the DDS scanner and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include both of the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
  • You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file and just post it or attach it.
STEP 2

Please run mbam-check and send back the log as an attachment to your next reply.

  • Download mbam-check.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post; instead please attach to your next reply the CheckResults.txt log file which should now be located on your desktop.
STEP 3

Please run the FRST tool and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system - that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your next reply.
