Overlapping of Installed Programs

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Just upgraded from 1.75 premium to 2.0 yesterday, and have to say so far have not experienced any problems/glitches..(yeah).....Anyways thanks for the great job to the creators...

What I am wondering about now with all the new changes is the following...

1) Because MWAM now has the malicious website protection (module ?),wouldn,t it be redundant to have it enabled also in Avast AV???....If so,should I disable it??...(In Avast)..

2) I have Zemana Anti-logger Pro installed as well....would this program still be relevant now??

As I see it,it makes no sense to have programs running that are trying to do the same things, even though they might be compatible with one another...

Your thoughts

Thanks

  1. No.  MBAM is an addon to traditional Antivirus programs, and as such cannot be a replacement for them.  However, if you're asking about only the Avast Website blocking feature, then yes, one or the other running real-time will be fine.
  2. The functionality provided by Zemana is not provided by MBAM, so it probably would nto hurt to keep it around if you want to.  However, I would make sure that you have exceptions in MBAM for all of Zemana's executable files so there is no conflict between the two programs.

You're correct, in that having multiple programs that do the same thing running can cause issues.  However, just having them installed and not actually running should not cause an issue b/c they can only collide with each other while running.

HTH.  Please post back if you have any additional questions or need any additional clarification.

YES,that is exactly what I was asking....Thanks

So are you aware of any other programs per se,that would be considered as being an overlap to MWAM,and are/could be redundant??

Not that I can say.  I don't explore too many other programs b/c I've been using MBAM for so long (beta tested starting around 0.5x builds, IIRC) and I tend to not like security 'suites' that tend to have all in one functionality, b/c 9 times out of 10 they either use too many resources, or else get entirely in the way of gaming.

Others here can chime in though.

Also, about the Avast website blocking - just because those two facets overlap does not mean I am saying uninstall Avast entirely.  I'm just saying that you can probably disable that one facet of Avast.
