Single File Scan Much Much Longer

Recommended Posts

Used right-click context menu to scan a downloaded file. Entire operation took 8:03 with 7:33 of that time for pre-scan operation.  8:03 is not much shorter than a threat scan of my entire system. Malwarebytes 1.x used to take less than a minute to scan an individual file.  I know 2.0 is better but 8 minutes for a single file?

That would depend entirely on what the file "is".

For example this un-named "downloaded file" could be a NSIS installer that uses a Microsoft installer Package *.MSI that uses embedded Microsoft Cabinet files (,CAB).

In that case that one file represents many files, each being scanned.

Not sure what your computer specs are or how you have Malwarebytes configured...

I just tried scanning my c:\temp folder with 14 objects in it... Mine did not take very long...

Try your scan again and post the log so we can see if your settings are different than mine...

@Ant Dude

It may or may not but you already have an open topic asking you to complete some scan for possible malware or possible configuration issue.  Please work on your topic in the removal forum.

Thank you

Just looked at the scan log from 3/28/14 and see that Chameleon is now listed as disabled.  If you look at the log I posted above from 3/27/14 Chameleon was enabled.

I haven't found any control to enable or disable it. What turns it on or off?

With Chameleon disabled I tried a right-click context scan of the same small single oblect file I tried earlier (see above). Scan log follows and shows scan speed has improved from 8:56 to 3:05 without Chameleon
