Just guessing but I noticed when I upgraded to version 2 that the folder name it wanted to install to was slightly different than where version 1.75 was.  There was a missing apostrophe after "Malwarebytes"; it should be "Malwarebytes'".  You therefore probably installed version 2 into a different folder rather than installing over version 1.75.  Just a guess.

Hello robkarp:

The new directory name was a planned change and the former directory with the apostrophe may remain and will not cause trouble.

Hello frapper:

This is a rare but known occurrence.

Functionally, normal operation of your system will continue.

If it all possible, could you maintain your system in this state till a Malwarebytes staffer can weigh in on this and possibly request additional information?

Thank you very much. :)

Rebooting will cure the double icon but it can randomly occur again. Closing one instance down via the System Tray icon also overcomes the issue. This way gives a warning that the system isn't protected but clicking the 'Fix' button turns everything back on again with only one icon showing.

I think daledoc1 has highlighted a possible cause. I have HitmanPro installed and this periodically initiates a scan as the computer starts. I'll make sure this doesn't happen at start-up and see if it looks to be the cause of the problem.

Hello All:

Any of the above remedial steps have/will work(ed).

However, to get the permanent solution, one of the Quality Assurance folks has outlined requests for details and I'm putting together some quick boilerplate.

For now, from a willing user, a post attached with: Output text files from mbam-check.exe, DDS, FARBAR, FRST and a memory dump & relevant minidump while the condition is occurring is a good start.

Cheers
