In the new version of MBAM 2.0 Free Edition I can't do a right - click scan on folders and files. I have to open up MBAM program in order to do that? Is this a new behavior or a bug?

In MBAM 1.75 I was able to do a right-click scan on folders and files from my computer, usb, and my external hard disk...

It's disabled by default in 2.00

Settings tab where it says "Explorer Context Menu Entry". Just click YES to turn it back on.

Thanks for letting us know, for future reference, you did not have to uninstall version 1.75 first, you can install right over it...

....and you don't need Revo. :)

There's an mbam-clean utility that is designed specifically for the task.

(It has been updated to work on 2.00, too.)

If you ever need to reinstall, here's how: MBAM Clean Removal Process

Thanks for all the information :). For me Add/remove works just fine I just always make sure it deletes all the folders and files that the add/remove method doesn't do sometimes. So I use Revo so it will uninstall the program along with other folders and files. Next time I will use the MBAM Clean Removal Process :)

By the way, do we need to run the MBAM Clean Removal Process on safe mode, because many antivirus software removal tool have to run it on windows safe mode?

Hi, @MultiKoopa:

Let's see if a clean reinstall helps.

Please follow the steps here: MBAM Clean Removal Process

Please post back and let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks,

P.S. The mod team might split your post off to a new, separate topic. ;)

This did not fix the problem... It still won't actually do a scan through the context menu. :-\

It should be doable through the free version, right?

What could the problem be?

Hi, MultiKoopa:

Sorry the reinstall did not fix it.

I haven't used the Free version in years, but I am pretty sure it offers that option (although it is disabled by default during install and needs to be enabled by the user in the settings).

At this point, the staff will probably need some additional info to sort this out.

Please run these scanners and post back with the logs attached to your next reply.

The staff will review them and advise you further.

Thanks,

daledoc1

---------------------

STEP 1
Please run the DDS scanner and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

>>If you are running Windows 8.1, please skip this step

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include both of the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
  • You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file and just post it or attach it.

STEP 2
Please run mbam-check and send back the log as an attachment to your next reply.

  • Download mbam-check.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it, it should then open a log file
  • Please do not copy and paste the entire contents of the log into your next post; instead please attach to your next reply the CheckResults.txt log file which should now be located on your desktop.

STEP 3
Please run the FRST tool and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. The one that runs will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your next reply.

  • Root Admin

Certainly some odd stuff installed but in theory it should not be preventing it.

I would recommend downloading Process Monitor from Microsoft and run it and look for ACCESS DENIED messages when you check and uncheck the option to do Context scanning inside MBAM and I'm betting that there is an error not allowing a registry entry to either be read or created due to a permissions issue in the Registry.

There is a video listed here that shows how to use the tool.

Sorry but there is no way to easily read that except to export in its native format and then zip it up.  Bottom line though is that for some of those that are Access Denied then the permissions may need to be fixed otherwise you'll simply continue to have issues with the computer and not even realize why. I say some because not all access denied are bad.  Some are there because the process is not being run with elevated admin rights by design. That tool is quite an eye opener for many users.

If you export the native file and zip it I'll take a look at it for you.
