I've just installed and am running MWB Pro with the latest database update v2014.03.23.08 on a brand new W8 netbook. I've been trying to install Avast! Free but kept getting an error. there were no other AV products installed. When I disabled MWB protection module avast! installed with no more problems.

The avast forums have reported the same problem with Avast full AIS, but another poster said he's had no problem installing the free version. That poster is also running MWB Pro so I thought I'd flag up the issue here in case anyone could shed any light.

Hello spokes,

I am a long time Avast Antivirus Free Edition user since Avast! 7. Did you have any previous antivirus installed before you installed Avast and also what antivirus your computer had when you bought it?

Run the previous antivirus uninstall utility in safe mode. Link is here http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146

As for avast, do the following:

1) Uninstall it via add/remove. Follow instructions.

2) Run this tool in safe mode http://www.avast.com/en-nz/uninstall-utility

3) Run this tool in normal mode http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

Note: In that link scroll down a bit and you will see a Zip folder of Avast Cleanup Tool. Click on that link and download it and follow the instructions. After you run that tool in normal mode, restart your computer manually again.

4) Install a fresh copy of avast

Avast was installed ok yesterday, MWB protection re-enabled and had no further problems with v1.75. However, thanks for the reminder, I've just installed v2 with no issues and everything is running ok.

Great job as usual done by the team,  not sure I like the v2 UI as much as v1.75 but there ya go :)
