After 17.5 hours and 1,491 objects scanned on my slave drive(E)(that I was having problems with when installed as Master) I attempted to abort the scan to find another method to trouble-shoot the slave that indicated bad sectors/segments at boot-up. Now, 1 hour later, 85 additional objects scanned and additional clicks on "abort scan" button the scan is still running. Any suggestions? Should I just shut down the system?

You can run the Windows Task Manager and try to kill the process.  If unable to kill the process then yes you may have to restart the computer.

If you're getting bad sector/segment messages though then that would certainly indicate needing to scan the drive with a tool designed to test the disk integrity not a malware scanner.
