Linux distro recommendations?

Andro1d

i have run several different 'nix OSes .

i have pretty much settled on linux mint 13 LTS .

i do have 16 on one machine but with this release , the network filesharing has to be manually installed .

i am testing "lxle /64 bit/full version" .

it seems to be a little snappier than mint13 and is supposed to be more compatible with "older machines" .

i like the programs that it comes with and the changes made to the "software search" .

the desktop background customization section wanting for much more ... the stock desktop background is a bit on the blah side .

the installation on my T400 had to be done in the normal mode ... the "safe graphics mode" choked .

have you taken a look over at www.distrowatch.com ?

i stopped doing the dual boot systems ; too much hassle and if the grub loader becomes corrupted it is a pain to recover from .

after the second time of re-installing windows i wised up and simply started using two hard drives or using "test machines" (real , not virtual) .

i firmly believe that if one is going to check out different 'nix OSes , it is easier (and safer !) to use one or two "real machines" .

i am about to check out a couple of OS versions that were recently released .

heh ... i just checked out "android" ... no thank you mister duck .
