Product key detection

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was just wondering if Malwarebytes should be finding the following.  I used it a few months ago to recover my MS Office 2007 key that I did not have written down anywhere, and it was recommended to me by a forum member, so I was surprised to see it come up in my scan just now.

Please let me know if you need more info.  I did not remove it or hit ignore at all, so it should come up in another scan if I do one.

We detect as PUP here, so this means it's potential unwanted. This is not prechecked by default for removal.

The main goal here is, malware often bundles such productkey apps as well in order to steal the productkeys from your system and upload to their servers, hence why we do still need to list these. So, if you know you've downloaded it yourself, you don't need to remove it (as it's not prechecked by default for removal) and can add it to your ignore list under settings.
