it seems that this folder appeared on my system

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (portable)

 

it was created 30 seconds after mbamchameleon.sys

I'm assuming this was from an update

Yes the folder creation is normal and okay.

There is no sanctioned Malwarebytes portable.

These are created by running Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit Beta.

I bet the reason that its creation time was near that of mbamchameleon.sys was because Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit also uses Malwarebytes Chameleon's driver to protect itself.
