Hi Sandydog,

Malwarebytes anti-malware (MBAM) is build with compatibility with anti-virus software in mind. As such I expect MBAM to be compatible with McAfee. Do read this post, so you'll know what exceptions to add to McAfee.

From the malwarebytes site about MBAM PRO.

Compatible with most major antiviruses

I'm quite sure McAffee is one of the major anti-virusses.

If it turns out that MBAM is not compatible for some reason with your McAffee security, start a topic in this sub-forum and we'll help you solve your problems with it. ('we' encompasses here both the forum volunteers and the malwarebytes staff.)

If you intend to buy MBAM PRO, I'd advise to use the trial version to find out if you run into any issues. Not that I expect any, but it's a good test run. (And not just for errors)

I'd like to point out that as soon as MBAM 2.0 is released malwarebytes will no longer be selling life-time licenses.

A little disclaimer: I'm no malwarebytes employee, just a forum volunteer and home user of MBAM.

I hope this answered your question, if you run into any problem or have a question, please post & ask.

Hi, sandydog: :)

Welcome.

To add to Durew's helpful advice, it might depend somewhat on the exact "flavor" and version of the McAfee products.

In general, MBAM PRO plays just fine with all the major, popular AVs.

Historically, though, some of the McAfee products provided by ISPs & some of the Enterprise products have had serious compatibility issues with MBAM PRO.  As the AV vendors are always updating/changing their products, this situation changes from time to time with different versions.

And you might still need to or find it helpful add exclusions between MBAM and standard, consumer McAfee products to reduce the chance of issues.

(A new laptop just a few months ago came with OEM McAfee and I was advised here in the forum by our Admin to set those exclusions.)

If you run into any problems, please tell us the exact names and versions of the McAfee products - e.g. Security Center.

We can provide you with specific steps to setting the mutual exclusions that might be a bit less confusing than the somewhat long-in-tooth FAQ topic for the Enterprise product. ;)

That might help to get things running a bit more smoothly, if needed.

Cheers,

Hi,

I was wondering if using Avast free(for anti-virus) , Malwarebytes Pro(for malware) , Windows 8 Firewall and SuperAntiSpyware is a decent combination for security?

Most sites seem to think it is ok, however , there seems to be some confusion over the firewall. Some say Windows firewall isn't that good and others say it is fine.

Does anyone think I should disable Windows 8 firewall and download something like "Privatefirewall"  or  something else?

I am aware that some security programs can clash , so after some research and aside from the firewall confusion i am thinking this is fine.

I would appreciate any insight into this combo that anyone has.

Hi, and :welcome: , lorneryder:

Your question is actually different from that of the OP, who asked specifically about compatibility between McAfee products and MBAM. :(

There is no "perfect" or "best" combination of programs for all computers.

There are many, many variables that enter the equation.

There are many excellent products.

And 10 experts will likely offer at least 11 opinions. ;)

Our forum Root Admin has recently posted an informative pinned topic here: List of well known antivirus products

It includes a link to a general computer site where vigorous discussion takes place about the pros and cons of many antivirus programs .

He also recently posted many other helpful tips and links here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=141809#entry787778

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks very much for your understanding.

Cheers,

Hello again daledoc1, I've downloaded the Pro version under trial conditions as advised by Durew. So far, fingers crossed, all goes well.

Regarding the Mcaffee updates that I mentioned in my last post, the update 22.1.2014 was a program update.  Upon re-reading my post I thought that it looked a bit confusing on that point.

Thanks for your interest.

You are most welcome. :)

Glad we could help.

Don't be concerned if the mods close this thread to prevent others from posting in it and hijacking it.

If they do close it and you run into issues or need help with exclusions, just start a new post and someone will be more than happy to help you.

Cheers,
