Skype malware. Everyone who uses it should read!

I use MBAM Pro and MBAE and MBAR and hopefully I'm not infected. Last night I started a Skype call to assist a friend with his PC, using screen share(which is literally the only good thing about Skype), and an Internet Explorer window opens up, with an obviously fake rogue antivirus popup telling me to install Windows Defender Pro. I exited Internet Explorer in task manager, and then proceeded to freak out and run every type of MBAM scan there is.

Nothing seems to be detected. I also ran Adwcleaner by Xplode, since you guys recommend it.

Here are the Skype Community posts about it:

I'm not going to post the link to the malware serving site that I was taken to(without clicking by the way!), but it is listed in the middle of the first page, on the second link. It's some BS called "Windows Defender Pro".

I didn't post in the "I'm infected" sections or "malware removal" since, as far as I can tell, I'm not infected. This has me really upset, since I don't know if it delivered a payload or something. I'm not an expert at all, when it comes to coding or stuff like that, so if any of the experts here want to go look at the malware being served there, and see how bad it is, that'd be appreciated.

As I said, I had MBAE open, but the shield icon wasn't displaying, and when I tried to do the fix where you end task and then restart it, it said "access denied".

Anyone using Skype, might not want to until they get this resolved. I'm angry enough to rant about how much I despise the fact that Skype, as invasive as it is, now is serving up ads in virtually every window it can open, but I won't rant.

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have! I'm super paranoid, and normally I'd just trash the hard drive and start over if I got a virus that made it past the multi-layered defenses I use, but I'm not sure if that's necessary here, since every scan comes up clean!

Hi, blackdove83:

It appears that others have reported what MIGHT BE a similar issue here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=141539

(There is insufficient information to determine if everyone in that post is reporting the same problem.)

Having said that, we aren't permitted to run the tools and scans needed for malware diagnosis and cleanup in this particular section of the forum.

If you would like one of the experts to assist you with running some scans to be sure you are clean, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
A malware analyst will help you look into your issue.

Thanks,

daledoc1

P.S. Only the forum Admins/Mods can move a post. ;)
