Do I need to use a Antivirus proram with MBAM pro? I've been using mbam pro for over a year now on 3 computers, along with plain NAV (with the suggested exclusions) until it expired, and now McAffee AV plus. MBAM pro has stopped everything from getting in, and the AV programs have never found anything. I have MBAM scheduled to do a quick scan twice a day. With the possible exception of the built in firewall, the AV programs seem to be getting a free ride, with MBAM pro doing all the work. I might add that I also use OpenDNS with custom settings to keep potentially dangerous sites off my network..

And another quick question. Is it safe to use Java in my browser? I know the holes in Java allow maleware exploits. Will MBAM pro stop them in there tracks? I only want to use it on one machine that I use to control my in house web server via webmin, but webmins file manager needs the java plugin to work, and I can't afford Cpanel.

Hello and :welcome: , Boone24

Do I need to use a Antivirus proram with MBAM pro?

Yes, absolutely!
MBAM is not an anti-virus (AV)&  is not a substitute for one.
This explains more: Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

And another quick question. Is it safe to use Java in my browser?

Absolutely not.
You are correct -- Java is a huge security vulnerability, even as Oracle tries to keep up with patches.

Few websites and few programs (such as some VPN clients) still require it.

Firefox and some other browsers now actually disable it by default for safety reasons.

The current recommendation is that, if you don't absolutely need it, you should completely remove all traces from your machine.

EDIT: Java (JRE) and Javascript are NOT the same thing, of course.  Javascript is generally needed, but there are many good browser extensions, such as NoScript, that permit one to selectively block it.

No, AFAIK, MBAM PRO does not currently target exploits.

However, there is a new product, currently in beta testing, which does: MBAE

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I will be keeping both AV and MBAM pro on my own machines. Many friends have brought their PC's to me for malware cleanup. I always install MBAM free on them and tell them to buy pro or find someone else to fix them if it happens again. I get many complaints about the cost of having both. I tell them that MBAM pro is a buy once deal, not every year like AV, and the cost is nothing compared to ID theft.
