Hi guys, i am asking you to help me with my computer here at work...No we dont have an IT department this place is small my computer (referb unit) has had all the problems...since im the only one that seems to know how to even use a computer they think i am causing my own issue..so bare with me if you can

I have java 7.40    im trying to update to 7.51   everything works out ok then after the oracle screen i get "installer was interupted error"      so i did some reading on line and downloaded "javara" to remove old versions of Java....it seem to have removed alot of old versions but i still have the same issue even after a restart.

I am a parts guy here and use multiple catalogs all needing lots of add ons...so java is needed.

if you can help me that would be great     thank you

Well if you already ran javara to remove old version, then your one step ahead...

First make sure you have admin rights to install the new version...

Then you can download the full installer from HERE and choose which version you need, 32bit or 64bit and then try that installer to see if it completes.....

Ok i decided to show you all the java files on the computer to see if this is correct.   I have taken a screen shot and cut some of this out so wasnt so much.  But i do have jave just cant uninstall it. Maybe these old ones are causing the problem?   java removal tool is not visiable to me on their site...seems to be just an "x"

Lets take a deeper look....

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply "as an attachment": DDS.txt and Attach.txt

You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file

I would recommend trying the following.  Don't use the newer tool, use this one.

Please download JavaRa-1.16 and save it to your computer.

  • Double click to open the zip file and then select all and choose Copy.
  • Create a new folder on your Desktop named RemoveJava and paste the files into this new folder.
  • Quit all browsers and other running applications.
  • Right-click on JavaRa.exe in RemoveJava folder and choose Run as administrator to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it in your next reply.

Then reboot the computer and run the following and reboot again.

Please Run TFC by OldTimer to clear temporary files:

  • Download TFC from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Close any open programs and Internet browsers.
  • Double click TFC.exe to run it on XP (for Vista and Windows 7 right click and choose "Run as administrator") and once it opens click on the Start button on the lower left of the program to allow it to begin cleaning.
  • Please be patient as clearing out temp files may take a while.
  • Once it completes you may be prompted to restart your computer, please do so.
  • Once it's finished you may delete TFC.exe from your desktop or save it for later use for the cleaning of temporary files.

Then try installing Java again.  (Though if you can do without Java that is the best bet.  Not very many sites actually require it anymore)

Hi, Advance setup.   Sorry for the late reply wasnt at work after like 530....  Anyway i do have that old version got it from another tech site with someone that had the same problem.     Here is my log file.     Again its weird i dont know that its actually getting rid of it. When i posted that screen shot of the file in "c" you can tell there still is a bunch of them located in the computer somewhere...i dont want to just manually start deleting all those.

I work at a Truck dealer and unfortantly manufactures still need to use IE, java, adobe air, flash, ect..bunch of weird stuff to get the pics of the catalogs to come up and print .   Most of this stuff is pre installed on the computers as we sort of rent the equipment..their tech support dosent fix anything they just send out new computers...by new i mean referbs..lol    Again im just trying to do a update to keep up with security patches....as this computer has had some trojans before and your software help me get rid of those.   We use mccafee vs enterprise 8.8 and wow thats complicated but i cant change it not my call on that.

anyway here is my attachment

JavaRa log file..txt

also after i did a "cclean" by piniform   i got rid of all those temp files...the first time i ran there were more but this attachment will let you know am doing this after the install fails...

also attached is my mccafee vs 8.8 enterprise edidtion report....I have this "rule" set to not block, so looks like its just warning me...im unfamiliar with this product again just istalled on the computer id rather have MSE.    Thought maybe you could see by what it wants to block what is worng idk maybe it wont help,

then a few error messages.

OK just to comment on your choice of antivirus software and to add a recommendation....

You are comparing McAfee Enterprise 8.8 against MSE. McAfee Enterprise is like a Cadillac compared to MSE being a Yugo. In this case your best solution is to stay with McAfee. That being said....

Download the full installer and put it in a downloads folder, do not attempt to run it from a TEMP folder (do not click on run when you try and download, instead save it to a folder). Your McAfee logs shows that if the rule would have been enabled, it would not have allowed it to run from a temp folder, it just logged it but did not block it.

Now if you want to try the install while having McAfee Disabled, here is how to disable McAfee Enterprise..

  • 1. Right Click McAfee Shield in system tray and select VirusScan Console

    2. If you have McAfee settings protected you will have to unlock the protection first.

*click Tools -> Unlock User Interface -> Enter Password

    3. Right Click on Access Protection -> Disable

    4. Right Click on On-Access Scanner -> Disable

    5. Reverse the steps to enable protection

    6. If you had McAfee settings enabled, click on Tools -> Lock User Interface

Once you have it disabled try and install Java and see if it completes.....

yea Firefox but honestly not to create a AV argument here but mccafee did not catch any of the issue that were found on this computer...the Malwarebytes did.    I had some bad stuff on here too, I scan with virusscan console every day just cuz of the issue wiht this computer.....(just a small quick scan tho) I recently had to reveiw and read the entire pdf doc of the "user manual" on Mccafee and wow intense...so im sure your right in the right hands there should be nothing to get in the way of this..i think its just not configured the right way.  Im learning..ha ha

I have done the Java install with "access protection" disabled as well same outcome...but i will do as you said and save it this time see if that works.  I was worried i had some sort of program blocking me that why i posted the mccafee text...didnt knwo what jqs.exe was..found out thats for java quick start and a normal program....all scans came out ok both mbam, and mccafee vs ent.

I understand what your saying (no argument by me).... but now your comparing apples and oranges.... McAfee is an antivirus program and Malwarebytes is an anti-malware program, and both detect different things. This is why having layered security is a must. I use McAfee Enterprise on the computer I am on now, together with Malwarebytes and I yet to get infected.

As for McAfee Enterprise, its a way better product than the consumer version of McAfee that's for sure.

Try with all options disabled and see if it completes (as mentioned above in my instructions)

Well this version 8.8 has malware and antivirus...again maybe its not set up right...the manual for this program is verry involved but i think i got the bulk of it figured out. Like you said it seems nice and more end user customizable then MSE.

ok i ran like you said (before i start...i ran "revouninstall" no java even found, ran javaRa 1.16 )saved java ->close other programs->turn off access protection-> run update from folder -> ...no dice same thing i think im going to give up on this one.   Right now all my catalogs work just i cant update so stuck with java7.40    i guess maybe i should worry about this once it stops supporting my catalogs.

Well you can't have 7.40 working if you ran JavaRA - also the log from Java shows it can't update because jqs is running which is from Java.

Please disable McAfee per instructions from Firefox and then run the TFC program (much better at cleanup than CCleaner) - do not use the Registry Cleaner from CCleaner or any other registry cleaner as that alone can sometimes be the cause for issues.

Then post a NEW set of DDS logs with attach before trying to reinstall Java and we'll look at it for you.

Thanks

No, please do not Google to find these tools. That can get you infected. If the links are not working then try from another computer please or I can upload a zip of them here.

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

ok i will have to run the TFC cleaner another time...just too hard while im at work to do it.  It seems to stop everything and when i did it i click the start button and it says "stoping processes" then just seems to stay there.  I assume its doing its thing but nothing telling me it is...no loading icon, swiriley thing or anything.    At the top of the box it said (TFC not responding)  wouldnt allow me to click on anything ...i let this run like this for a few minutes till i got interupted.

I will do this for you guys later ...where as the ccleaner i can run only takes a few seconds.   Is it worth running the DDS thing now or you guys need that TFC cleaner done first?

oh btw i found all those same sites to download the tools from so seems to be ok.   I appologize im not a IT guy just trying to fix this computer unfortantly just cant dig into it right now due to interuptions.

ok i couldnt get TFC to work..i think its my av   saw a block log for it...it seems as if the TFC wants to terminate mccafee services...Acess protection rule wont allow that...so i will have to try again later when i get time to shut it all down.

SO here is your dds files you wanted.   one is zipped other is just a attachment

dds.txt

attach.zip

Well you have a bit more going on here than we can do here in this forum.  You appear to have some minor possible infections or at least PUPS (Possibly Unwanted Programs)

We cannot run the tools required to look at that here so you'll need to open a new topic in the malware removal forum when you'll have time to work on this more.

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=7

TFC is probably not running due to the fact that you have MBAM Pro running.  You need to uncheck Start with Windows and reboot the computer.  Then attempt to disable McAfee and then run TFC again and this time it should run.

Thanks for all your help Advance setup, and Firefox    i will dig into this later and start a new thread ....Thank you!!!
