Hello forum users.  I was wondering if anyone has found out the people responsible for "scorpion saver by adpeak, inc." ?  this malware, spyware, adware or whatever it is has caused me great inconveniences.  it has also caused hundreds, probably thousands of others the same as a simple "google" search will turn up thousands of inquiries.  I believe we allow hackers, spammers, et al waaaay too much leniency.  I believe an example needs to be set with the people that believe it is their job to make life hard on everyday folks trying to use their computers.  I have spent countless hours messing around this particular 'ware and have finally been successful over the last couple of months.  however, that does not make up for the time that was stolen from me and my family which cannot be regained.  I am a completely single dad and had a diagnosis of stage 4 lymphoma - so our time was more than priceless.  my family's quality of life was directly impacted in a negative way due to the problems with this 'ware.  now, as I stated, I have not had to deal MUCH with it in the past couple of months due to immense diligence and work on my part.  AND, finally my AVG has begun recognizing it and stopping it the last couple of times.  finally - I had to deal with it on my own prior to that.  BUT, the fact that AVG is "catching it" means the 'ware is still attempting to cause me problems.  there are no benefits from this.  AND as I stated before, this is harassment at minimum, invasion of privacy, stealing of time and unwarranted, unsolicited emotional stress.

I would like any corporate information anyone has on this "adpeak, inc" or whatever their real name is.  any contact info, an address, a phone number, mailing address, people in charge, etc.  I plan on ensuring I never have to deal with them again, and also become very well compensated for the damages which they are responsible for.

this would easily be a class-action lawsuit by the numbers affected involved; but we know only the lawyers who use the plaintiff's get compensated in those arrangements.  so being used and abused by 'adpeak, inc" is one thing; but I will definitely not allow some slimebag lawyers to piggyback on this issue as well.

it is time that we in this country start holding people accountable for their crimes.  and that does definitely include this arena.  this is soooo overlooked by our legal factions, that it is pathetic.  why should YOU have to deal with this sort of problem everyday, week, month, year or ever?  why do YOU accept "oh that's just part of the price of computing"  NO, it definitely is NOT.  I will not be in bondage to "some little punk who has nothing better to do than try and make life more difficult because he gets a challenge or a kick out of it"  AND/OR definitely not a company or corporation which tries to impose its will on my life for its gain and my harm.

so, thank you for listening and reading this post in its entirety.  and thank you for any helpful information you have.  Here's to more freedom for you and yours in your computing!

Hello and :welcome:

Sorry you have had to spend time with this infection.... Having a robust and up to date antivirus together with a robust Anti-Malware product such as Malwarebytes PRO will go a long way from you getting infected in the first place.

I understand your frustration, but do you really want to spend your time going after a company such as this one? It is certainly up to you what you do with your time, I see a long battle going uphill in this matter. (of course that is my opinion and not the views of Malwarebytes...)

That being said, you can get help with removing this infection by following the instructions HERE. As for contact info, doing a simple Google search will yield results with contact info (assuming its correct or a legal company of course).

Hi anecaj3   23shh55.jpg to the forum.

I've read about "scorpion" at other forums and it is indeed a stubborn headache to remove and deal with on one's PC.

I wish you the best in your cleanup and legal endeavors.  I'd say that this is a safe statement to make on behalf of everyone here:  If we could, we'd prosecute any and all malicious authors and their associates.

My personal fantasy about this is to magically create a "boomerang" tool that would route all malicious code back to its original authors and "brick" their systems   I know, impossible, but wouldn't it be great if that could happen?

As one that's been hit by a couple of malicious infections in past years that required cleanup actions, I'll give my 2¢ advice about this topic.

The best way to accomplish 3 things, one of which would have helped your situation,

- Fast recovery from virtually every malicious infection

- Protection from HDD failure

- Protection from user mistakes, ie, downloading something in error, Registry edit, or wanting to restore a HDD state to a previous status

, is to begin and maintain a backup plan, which includes a full-HDD backup, including a daily or multi-daily specific backup which will copy the "must-have" items that we all have on our PC's, those items that are frequently edited or changed daily.

By having and periodically maintaining a full-HDD backup, either by cloning or imaging, one can restore the entire HDD with a bootable spare HDD that includes all of their data and installed programs.

With the daily backup plan, you can then restore those must-have items quickly to the installed spare HDD.

Believe me, I'm no expert about this scene :) but I have recovered my PC twice in the past 3 years by installing my cloned HDD.  Just my opinion about it, but I prefer this method to cleaning up the infected PC as, for me, it was faster than the alternative which requires downloading specific malicious-cleanup tools and seeking online advice from experts.

The most important advice I'd offer, if you choose to pursue a backup plan similar to an idea that's offered here, is to test and verify your full-HDD recovery methodologies.

When I clone periodically, I test the cloned HDD by booting up on the newly-cloned HDD, and giving it a fast "workout", launch the usual items, 'net browser, e-mail client, a few apps or programs, open some Office items (Word, Excel files).

I also test some of my full-HDD images with my "Rescue" CD's, boot up to RAM outside of Windows, and restore the image to a spare HDD and then boot up on it and do a similar test as with a cloned HDD.

well thank you both for your replies.  i appreciate the input, advice, and options from both posters.  i do now have my computer "under control" and i do copy, back-up, etc often and am happy with what i have.  I just feel (know) it is wrong to allow these spammers, hackers, advertisers (w/ corrupting programs) to continue to invade our personal lives for their "kicks" or whatever their intentions are.  i believe in respecting other people and not causing an inconvenience (at minimum) to someone because 1 has a depraved/flawed character.  i also believe precedence is a great deterrent (i.e. file sharing/downloading prosecutions).  you, i and all others young & old, professional & beginner, should be able to do what we want with our computers & the WWW and have freedom & enjoyment doing so.  Thank you

While I can sympathize with your sentiments, you have to realize that actually fnding these groups responsible for such Malware is going ot be extremely tough.  These are not your ordinary run-of-the-mill publicly traded companies, nor are they normal everyday mom-and-pop businesses - in fact, I'd ventue that most of thes are not 'businesses' at all, but criminal cartels that are benefitting from the same scare tactics as used by mafiosos worldwide in so-called protection rackets.

If it was easy to target them and bring them into trial, then the courts would already be flooded with cases today whereby these entities would be trying their hardest to defend themselves against wrongdoing, or else turning prosecution's evidence and taking plea agreements in order to lighten their sentences.  Remember, this is considered criminal behavior too, not just an or a series of inconveniences.

IMO, your best interests would be served by documenting all the lost time, wages, income and such, consulting with a lawyer as to structurring a case, and then sitting on it until this particula group (or members thereof) are actually brought to stand trial in riminal court - and then pounce on them with a civil lawsuit.

Also, as noted by Firefox, this is my personal opinion, and nothing I have said in this post is meant to reflect or be represented as an official stance y MalwareBytes corporation.

The guy (David) runs this out of his house; Did a Google Streetview of the address. Not a smart guy. I'd contact him about litigation.
