Hi:

Lately, I've been noticing that my internet has been quite slow lately. Anything I can do to make it run quicker?

We would need more info to help with this.
Please start by following the directions below and post back with BOTH logs ATTACHED to your next reply.
The experts will need more details about your set-up & networking (how you connect to internet, router or not, etc), but the logs will help for starters.

I also noticed that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 never fully scans I believe, it always seems to freeze and close by itself.
Thanks.

To avoid confusion and to keep discussion of 2.0 in the appropriate venue, please post about this other issue in the 2.0 section of the forum. :)

Thanks!

DDS Instructions

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once it is downloaded, you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please attach both of the following logs to your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

I don't notice anything obvious as being an issue but you might want to do a clean removal of MBAM and install the currently released version instead of the Preview.

I also notice that you're running Microsoft Security Essentials which at one time was considered a decent antivirus is no longer thought to be one and it is highly recommend that you uninstall it and use another antivirus program such as Avira and Avast whom both offer a free version.

If you continue to have an issue beyond that then you might want to see help in the malware removal forum to have it double checked.

Between Avira and Avast, which one do you better? Or which one do you prefer? Also I downloaded the newer version of MBAM and it never fully scans, it freeze or somthing and closes by itself.

Both are good antivirus products so personal preference may mean more to some than others.  Either one is better than MSE though.

If the main program is crashing then best you contact support and have them assist you or post in the malware removal forum where they can help you scan your computer for issues.

Downloading Avast, this means I have to uninstall MSE right?

Please run a Full Disk Check on your system drive.  If needed here are some links on how to run a Disk Check.

On Windows XP the disk check log is in the Event Logs under Application with a heading source of  Winlogon

How to Run a Chkdsk Function on Windows XP

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

From a command prompt you can basically run this and reboot and let it run.

CHKDSK C: /R

Then press the Y key when it says it cannot lock the drive, then the Enter key and reboot.

Then post back the results from the Event Log what the disk check found or repaired.

Then try a clean removal process and see if MBAM is still hanging up or not and let us know.

I'm heading out for vacation tomorrow night so unless this gets done in the morning I may not be around to reply.  If you do continue to have issues though you can open a  help desk ticket or see if someone else has other ideas.

No I just meant the one entry.  While looking at the Event Logs when you find the one with the entry you double click to open it.  Then you can click the small icon that looks sort of like an open book.  That will copy the entry to your clipboard where you can then paste it back here in your reply.

So, what did Avast find and did it change anything?

How is the computer running now?

Well it could simply be an issue with your service provider and congestion.  Internet connections speeds are rarely stable.

If you do feel you have something going on though then as said you can open a topic in the malware removal forum and someone can assist you in scanning your system for a possible infection.

Here is the canned message for that.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks

are you using your own rouer with their modem or are you running a "gateway" that has both cause the internet companys "gateways" are unreliable (as ive gone threw 7 of them kind ) cause they don't get bridged right and it affects your router behind it so im currently having mine come out and change it cause its only getting 7-9 mbps down and 5-7 up hardwired to it and 30-35+mbps hardwired to my router thanks to the intellistream set at 75-80 download by 7-8 upload..  ;)

I believe I'm using my own router.

Katracho93, I don't have a lot of knowledge but I use the "Boot Time"  scan in the avast scans choices.  It seems to do a better job than just the "Full Scan" maybe some others can tell you why.  Also follow the directions for this type of issues, clean up your disks, defrag with Auslogics software.

I'm going to try this.

Also take a look at what type of Add-ons and extensions that have been added to your pc.  The Boot-time scan-scans before regular start-up and scans a few other things that a regular scan does not, I have had very good luck with it and love avast for it's simple interface and freeness lol.  It will ask you to choose to restart your pc and when it does it will start up in the Safe Mode I think and will scan before a virus can be launched.  My computer guy likes Auslogics Defrag software so there is some professional advice there.
