Cant enter password. Keyboard erratic at random. Vista

When I get to the password screen to access my laptop it wont accept my password and the keyboard input is erratic. Sometimes when I perss "2" the cap lock comes on and some other keys are randomly inop. The keyboard has not been damaged.I cannt enter even in safe mode.

If the computer will not accept the password then there is not much I can do, Have you tried another keyboards just to be sure?
