Hi everyone,

This is my first post here.

Regedit and Taskmanager are disabled on my laptop. I have used MBAM (log below) and it detected Hijack.Regedit and Hijack.TaskManager. However, after a re-boot, the regedit and taskmanager are still disabled.

I am not sure exactly when the problem began - the laptop was with a friend for a few days. I had Zonealarm on my laptop, but after the issue started, zonealarm does not start when Windows starts - I cannot start it manually either. Same issue with Spybot.

I have a licensed version of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, but it is also not able to clean the infection.

When I try to boot in Safe Mode, Windows crashes.

Please help.

MBAM and HijackThis logs are below. Both logs were taken soon after MBAM scan was over (before reboot).

Hi,

Your problems remind me of Sality - this also since I see Norton Internet Security present here, however it's not running....

Sality disables regedit and taskmanager + all Antivirus, and on top - which is the worst part of all, it infects legitimate files. So this means every exe file may be infected.

And the presence of Sality is bad news.... the same as with the Virut virus. In that case, it's unfortunately a lost case - Game over situation and a format and reinstall is the fastest and especially the safest solution.

You may want to read this why:

Virut and other File infectors - Throwing in the Towel?

So, I suggest you to start backup all of your valuable data/documents/pictures/movies/songs/etc.. Do NOT backup any applications/installers and Do NOT backup any .exe/.scr/.htm/.html/.xml/.zip/.rar files...

This because these files may be infected as well. If you back them up and replace them afterwards, it will infect your computer again.

Read here for instructions how to format and reinstall Windows: http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winxp/adva...all-format.html

Glad I could help. :D

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
