I was able to install malwarebytes, but when trying to run it for the first time, it didn't even try to execute.

Avira finds quite a few items that are listed as trojans, but is unable to delete of quarantine them for good.

The computer did, however, allow me to install and run hijackthis. This is what it came up with:

Hi,

I see you have Viewpoint installed...

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player

Then, please rename malwarebytes (mbam.exe) to something else - for example spidey.exe

Let me know if that works to execute it.

Hi,

First of all, please update MalwareBytes.

  • Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  • In case you can't update the database via the update option, please download and install the database from here. Only do this when the update option doesn't work.
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a full scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Okay, about 26 minutes into the scan, the program stopped responding. I gave it 10 minutes to resume, but to no avail. I will exit out and begin again unless I hear from you again in that time and you have me do something else, in which case I will stop the scan and follow your steps.

I do not know if it matters or not. But I looked at the link for the updates to the scanner on a computer that was not infected, and saw the green download button. On the infected computer the link did take you to the site, but there was no available button to choose to download. I tried it that way because it would not update automatically. The error was "Update failed. Make sure you are connected to the internet and your firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to access the internet."

Upon restarting MBAM, I was curious what a quick scan would reveal, and here is the log from afterwards:

Sure thing. Here it is. As of yet I have not chosen to delete all of the items that MBAM found. Should I go ahead with that? I will leave the scan results up and untouched until instructed otherwise. Now on to the scan.

Upon reboot the internal speaker made a beep noise at the welcome screen, and at windows login, it is a blue screen with a window from AntiVir Guard. It states a virus or an unwanted program was found, and asks what to do with it. the file is (and this is going to suck to type) C:\Windows\System32\ovfsthgcombasixatdglnvjrbicyyfwgdkhden.dll it also says this is the TR/CryptZPACK.Gen Trojan, which I am sure you already knew.

Anyway I told it to delete the file. (As I have upon every login.) And here is the log you requested:

I do not know if this would have any bearing on the situation or not, but when the computer is sitting there with a view of the desktop, I can see the start button part of the startbar flicker into view and out again. Other than that, and the warning on login from Avira, these are all I am noticing. I have not really gone plundering around yet either though.

Hi,

Please tell Avira to delete the file. Then reboot.

After reboot,

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Sorry for the delay, I just wanted to make sure I did this the way that it is supposed to be done. When I started up combo fix, it rebooted the computer, which freaked me out a bit since I do not recall reading anywhere that a reboot would happen. Unfourtunately on reboot I guess Avira automatically enabled itself again. It tried to fight ComboFix the whole time. I kept telling Avaria to ignore throughout since I was stuck in the process anyway.

If this log does not show you what you need or it seems to be wrong I can uninstall Avaria, run the ComboFix, and reinstal virus protection when this is all said and done. But, the firewall was turned off and so was windows defender, in case you were wondering.

After it was all said and done and the reboot back into windows happened, that trojan reared its head again. And the start button is still flickering.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Okay, I have a couple of logs this time. First I ran super anti spyware, and got its log, then I ran Malwarebytes by renaming the .exe, and got its log, then I ran combofix, and here is its log as well. I will post the most recent hijack this log momentarily.

Hi,

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.

Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::

c:\windows\System32\drivers\gxvxccdiipvvtseuojpvuxcsbqtxwmqtqstrc.sys

c:\windows\System32\gxvxcvtonsdpdqmckbbnmlrbmeclxrvpxxosb.dll

c:\windows\System32\gxvxccounter

Registry::

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"nDler2"=-

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

CFScript.gif

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.
