slow browser downloads

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys:

Recently Ihave been experiencing slow download speeds, but only in my browser.  I have tried Chrome, IE, and Firefox (my default), and all experience the same issue.  Download speeds, (measured with speedtest.net) are showing about 1/3 of what they should.  Other applications like Down Them All and non browser based file downloaders all work at maximum internet speed.  Only browser based downloads are slow.

I have done all of the usual things, like clearing caches and cookies, and run several anti malware programs such as MalwareBytes, Hitman Pro, Trojan Remover, ADWCleaner, etc without finding anything.  I normally have Windows Defender and Avast antivirus running, along with MalwareBytes.

Other computers in my house on both wired and wireless networks show full speed on both browser based and file downloaders.  My computer is the only one with the problem.  I have contacted my ISP and they could find nothing wrong, but they replaced my modem anyway.

Can anyone help?

Darrell

Hello and :welcome: , 1metalguru:

This doesn't sound like a problem with MBAM, so the mod team may move this post to another area of the forum. ;)

Having said that, let's get some basic system info for starters.

Please follow the steps below and post back with BOTH logs ATTACHED to your next reply.

They will help the staff/experts to determine what might be going on (though they may well need additional system info, as well).

Thanks,

DDS Instructions

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once it is downloaded, you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please attach both of the following logs to your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

The Event Logs show that something is certainly affecting your computer.  This could be due to some type of software conflict or possibly an infection.

Since we don't do actual malware detection in this section of the forum I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks
