Malwarebytes Pro and Avast! question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just installed Malwarebytes Pro.

I've had Avast! free version for a while.

To make sure the one plays well with the other, I've been following the instructions on this website under "FAQ - Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions" (link here):

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138#entry417798

I am unable to follow the following set of instructions - I guess they may have been written for an earlier version of Avast? The Avast menus have changed. Here are the instructions I was unable to follow:

  • Also, for Avast! Internet Security:
  • Click on Behavior Shield on the left and click Expert Settings
  • Click on Trusted Processes
  • Click on Browse next to the blank entry at the bottom of the list (this will be the only entry if no other exclusions have been set yet)
  • Navigate to C:Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click once on mbam.exe and click Open Note: For 64 bit Windows versions this will be Program Files (x86)
  • Do the same for the following files:
    • mbamgui.exe
    • mbamservice.exe
  • Click on OK

Can someone help me figure out how to access Avast's "trusted processes" menu and add these Malwarebytes processes to it?

Thanks,

Lisa T.

Since these instuctions you are having trouble following are for Avast 6, you must have Avast 7, 8 or 9.

Each are slightly differant.

So I followed those instructions you posted and made my own version to explain how to do it in Avast 8 and 7 (Because thats the versions I have). I don't have Avast 9 or 2014 or whatever is the latest so I'm not sure. It would help if you told us what verison you have.

You can check by going into Maintenance then Update. At the bottom is where it should say what Program Version you have.

Anyway, here they are:

Avast 8:

Open Avast! user interface

Click on Security at the top right corner

Click on Antivirus on the left

Click on Behavior Shield

Click on Settings near the stop and start buttons

Click on Trusted Processes

Click on browse
Navigate to C:Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click once on mbam.exe and click Open Note: For 64 bit Windows versions this will be Program Files (x86)

Do the same for the following files:

    mbamgui.exe
    mbamservice.exe

Click on OK

---------------------

Avast 7:

Click on Real-time shields on the left

Click on Behavior Shield

Click on Expert Settings

Click on Trusted processes

Navigate to C:Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click once on mbam.exe and click Open Note: For 64 bit Windows versions this will be Program Files (x86)
Do the same for the following files:

    mbamgui.exe
    mbamservice.exe

Click on OK

  • 2 weeks later...

In Avast 6 (https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138&p=417798) they called it File System Shield ...

As I do not use Avast I can not say for sure but it appears you are in the right section...

There are two sections where exclusions can potentially be set; I'm wanting to know what section should be used to set them.

Like I said, I do not use Avast so I am not 100% sure what section, you can either wait and see if someone else replies here or you can try the Avast Forums HERE perhaps they can direct you to the proper spot to enter the exceptions.

Yes, I saw where you mentioned not using avast! so plan to do as you say, i.e. wait for someone who does.

You just need to put them as Settings>Antivirus>Exclusions.

Once they are there, it contributed to all the shields. So no need to put exclusions manually on each shield.

Yeah I end up settling on using this section; the descripotion under 'Exclusions' seemed the most apt.

Adding exclusions is not always needed, but I like to put them as a proactive approach.

Thanks AlI821 for that added info...

TheSeeker11, I hope that answers your question, if not let me know and I can have someone on staff take a look at this thread...

I would like it if a staff member could take a quick look, just for a definitive answer.

Aside from doing my own testing we're not seeing many issues reported where one has to add exclusions.  Most users seem to be able to run it even without the exclusions.

If the computer in question is still experiencing issues even after installing exclusions then perhaps it's best to open a ticket with the Helpdesk to see if they can work through it and find out what's causing it.

I'm not having issues, was just wondering which method of exclusion was recommended.

This is for a 64 bit system with Avast Free and Mbam Pro.  NOTE: The entire Mbam Program has been excluded.  The *  Includes any part of the program

NO conflict what so ever between Avast & Mbam

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\*
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\*
